Off grid, recycled tree trunk cabin with glass bottles. Solar powered in the Mindo countryside, close to all tourist activities, yet secluded for privacy, relaxation & an uninterrupted cloud forest experience. Other vacation houses & owners are on this property. Shoes are not permitted inside. Breakfast is offered at an additional price. The cabin also comes equipped with an outdoor kitchen for your own cooking preferences. The space We are nestled in the mountainous countryside of the Mindo-Nambillo cloud forest, at a 30 minute walk past the town of Mindo (1.5 miles or 2.4 km), and just a 10 minute walk to the Butterfly Farm. The road to the property is a country, dirt road, so please take that into consideration. Our cabin is ecofriendly and functions off the electrical grid, using solar panels for energy. It consists of 1 bedrooms, 1 double size bed, 1 full bath, and sleeps up to 2. Drinking water is provided at all times. This cabin comes equipped with an outdoor kitchen, but no refrigerator. We are completely secluded and offer privacy from the bustle and noise in the town of Mindo. A small cottage, larger house and other recycled cabins are located on the property as well (one of which we, the owners, live in), making La Lomita an excellent location for larger group gatherings in your own private hacienda. The entire structure of La Lomita is spread out over 2 hectares, so space is abundant and privacy and social distancing is not an issue. Due to COVID-19, the use of the sauna is scheduled, so that only one group uses it at a time. In addition to the solar panels for electricity, we also rely on a local waterfall/mountain spring for water. We practice energy conservation, and are conscientious of not utilizing high voltage consuming products, as well as turning off the lights and electrical appliances when not in use. This habit not only emphasizes the importance of energy conservation within all of our cultural visits, it also allows us the opportunity to remind and reinforce resource conservation to our children, fellow guests and future generations. This recycled cabin at La Lomita is custom built and unlike anything else you will find in Ecuador. The light during the day and night shines through the glass bottles, providing for an array of colors that litter the cabin walls. Wooden sculptures are also built into these walls, fusing art & nature into a structural elegance. Views from the windows and mosaic patio look out onto gardens, forests & the valley below. Relax outside in your own private hammock and take in the scenery and nature of the Mindo-Nambillo cloud forest that is both breathtaking and awe inspiring! For the small family or couple who enjoys nature, and the uncontaminated, pure environment that the Mindo countryside has to offer, this is the perfect getaway for some peace and quiet, filled only with the sounds of birds, insects and running water. Here at La Lomita, we sit on 3 hectares (7.5 acres) of nature filled land, with trees, fields, creeks, birds, armadillos, guatusas, and other abundant wildlife all around us. Outdoor, on-site athletic activities include nature walks, playing/wading in the creek, swimming in our outdoor, natural, chemical free pool, yoga or ping pong in the yoga studio, badminton, volley ball or croquet in the sports field, a hot sauna next to the natural pool, or time in the gazebo, relaxing and marveling at what guests dub the "hummingbird hangout". There is nothing more relaxing, gratifying, and peaceful, than to have your own private haven amidst the birds and animals chirping and moseying outside. You can discreetly watch them through the windows or from the hammocks of our outdoor gazebo! Come relax, read, and gather with your loved ones in your own private paradise! We owners are bilingual in English and Spanish and we raise our two children bilingually as well. The cabin and property are child and eco-friendly, using only non-toxic products, and offering entertainment for children such as a trampoline, outdoor games, and free range chickens to feed and collect eggs from. Though daytime can reach the 80's F, nighttime tends to be cool, for which one controls the temperature by simply closing the windows and using extra, supplied blankets if needed. Nighttime at La Lomita resembles a starry sky, except instead of stars, you will notice that they are lightning bugs, illuminating the darkness! Sometimes it's as if you were in your own private galaxy, surrounded by twinkling stars (flashing fireflies) as you walk the property in the dark. Paths are also automatically illuminated with solar lamps that turn on at dusk. Guest access Within the recycled cabin and grounds of La Lomita, guests have access to basic housekeeping, linens and towels, plenty of indoor & outdoor hammocks, trails, an outdoor, natural, chemical free pool, a Finnish sauna, bonfire pit, yoga studio & sports field, and lastly, seclusion, peace of mind, and breathtaking views throughout! Other things to note It's important to note that at La Lomita, we practice energy conservation by functioning off the grid, relying on solar panels for energy. We therefore thank you in advance for not utilizing high energy consuming electronics such as hairdryers, etc.!
