Nature Nested Geodesic Dome in NC Mountains
Are you searching for a private, quiet place? Well off the main road and nested in the trees, “On the Rocks” is NOT a glamping experience! This geodesic dome has it all— full kitchen, bath, supplemental heat & air conditioning (not like traditional home). Want to go out? We're only 10 minutes from downtown. Like staying in? We've got a full-size fridge and all the cooking amenities you might want. Enjoy your coffee on the deck listening to the creek and watching deer roam the 10-acre forest. The space This dome has it all! You will drive right up beside the dome and park next to the fire pit area to easily unload your belongings. On the deck, you’ll find outdoor seating, a gas grill, and space to hang out in nature and listen to the creek below. The fire pit area with outdoor seating and Breeo brand smokeless fire pit is just steps away. (Not available in high wind— Smokey the Bear says so!) Bring your hammocks to string out or pay a small fee to borrow some! Inside, you’ll be greeted with the giant, 20-ft window overlooking the forest. The living area has a couch and two chairs and dining area for 4. The coffee bar is in the living area and features a tool cart stocked with all your coffee pod and tea needs. For coffee, you can choose from keurig or make a whole pot (BYO coffee grounds but some pods are provided). Inside the cart you’ll find glasses, including wine glasses, on the left and a microwave on the right. On the right upon entering, you’ll find the full kitchen equipped with full-sized refrigerator, electric oven/stove, sink with separate filtered water spigot, top-loading dishwasher, plenty of pots and pans, cooking essentials, toaster, blender, and more! This kitchen is stocked by someone who loves to cook! In the middle of the dome, there is a wall that partitions the master bedroom and bathroom (over which lives the loft!) from the main living space and kitchen. The master bedroom features a California King sized, green tea infused memory foam mattress bed, plenty of outlets for charging your electronics (please no personal space heaters), a 32” ROKU TV, places to hang your clothes (coat hangers provided) and fold-out luggage racks with storage. The linens are provided as are extra blankets if you need a little something more than the fluffy duvet! The bathroom features a spacious 3’ x 4’ shower with sliding door, a vanity with single sink and plenty of counter and drawer space to stash your stuff. Toilet and toilet paper is provided for you. Towels are provided. You’ll even find essentials available for your use in case you forgot anything for your stay. In the living area you will find a ships ladder to take you up to the loft where you will find a queen sized bed with green tea infused memory foam mattress that is positioned to allow you to star gaze through the skylight, a 32” ROKU TV, and an additional floor seating area that converts in to a twin sized floor mattress (4” memory foam- great for kids). Linens are provided for these additional sleeping arrangements upon request. Parking is free and on-site, WiFi is free and available, and the hosts will give you plenty of trip ideas to maximize your vacation. You’re sure to enjoy a stress-free vacation in the forest and be stoked by the quick drive to local restaurants, shops, and attractions. Guest access This dome is a private airbnb. You’ll have access to the entire structure except for the utility basement below. You have approximately 10 acres available to you for exploring. Please abide no trespassing signs which mark the edges of our property. Other things to note The road leading to the dome is a gravel mountain road. Please plan accordingly and be aware that there will be bumps and rocks to encounter on your drive. (See more below for winter months, late October to mid-May) In the summer, please know that the loft will be warmed up by the sun during the day. Rest assured that it will cool by evening for a comfortable and awesome nights sleep under the stars. During winter months: **The dome does have a mini-split and electric heaters as well as an insulated liner. However, it is not insulated like a house would be and does not heat and cool like a traditional dwelling. We can only guarantee about 20 degrees warmer in the dome during the coldest, windiest weather. Please plan accordingly and bring warm clothing in the winter (socks and slippers!), and an open mind during the middle of the day in the summer (go outside and play- rest assured, it will cool down for a wonderful sleep at night!). **The road to the dome is gravel as mentioned above and can get icy. We try to keep the road scraped as best we can but cannot use salts due to the gravel. We recommend 4WD or AWD. A slower and steady climb up the hill is best (10 MPH and keep going, don't stop) when it's icy. If a neighbor is coming down, they know to pull off and let others come up before they go down! Please also abide by this policy to keep everyone safe. ****Our friends at Unseen Pass offer road-worthy side-by-sides and jeeps for rent that may be a great option. Reach out to us for our special friends discount, and ask to have your unit delivered and waiting on you at the dome when you arrive! **At 3800 ft elevation, we get really high winds in the winter and fall. You will not be able to use the firepit due to this, and it may be unavailable so please just be aware that this is out of our control.
