Description

The Owners' Cottage is a gorgeous stand-alone 1-bedroom / 1 bathroom cottage with shower, bath and benefits from a private boma with firepit, and a private wood-fired KolKol (hot tub) with sweeping mountain views. The space Located up a winding mountain path, the first thing you notice when you arrive at Starry Starry Night is how wonderfully in-the-middle-of-nowhere it feels. Surrounded by nearly 400ha of pristine mountain wilderness, and cradled by the foothills of the towering Langeberg mountains, the location is something truly unique. It is, the pristine Mountain wilderness, that is the main drawcard of the reserve. There are gorgeous vistas in every direction you look, some of the stretching far into the distance over hundreds of Karoo koppies. A short walk from your cottage is a babbling river that runs over a series of cascades into crystal clear rock pools, more pure than anything that comes out of a tap. Just sitting by the stream and listening to its cheerful gurgling is balm for your soul. There is plenty to see and do on the reserve itself, and loads to explore in the surrounding towns of Montagu, Barrydale, Swellendam and Bonnievale if you fancy a day excursion. From wine tasting, scenic tractor rides, cheese farms and hot springs to weekend markets, antique shops, rock climbing and hiking there is something for all tastes. We recommend a stay of 3-nights or longer to truly get to experience everything our beautiful eco mountain reserve and its surrounds have to offer. Guest access The reserve is reached via a 2km-long access road that is partly gravel partly concrete tracks. Our road can be a little bumpy in places, as you'd expect from a true mountain road, though the views along the way will be far more of a focus. The reserve is accessible by all vehicles (except very low-slung sports cars, rather take the helicopter ;-). You do not need a 4x4 to reach your cottage, and we regularly have guests arriving in a Ford Fiesta or VW uP! without a hitch. Starry Starry Night is located half-way between Montagu and Barrydale on the iconic Route 62, approximately 2.5hrs drive from Cape Town and exactly half-way between Cape Town and the Garden Route. During your stay JD & François live on the premises and are available anytime for any questions. Your main point of contact on site will be our lodge Manager Emz. Other things to note A communal area is shared between the cottages, a short 2min walk away. Here a wood-fired KolKol hot tub, cold pool and fire pit makes for a wonderful sundowner spot. Although this area is communal, since we only have 4 cottages, we are able to book a private afternoon/evening for you to go to the Kolkol (at a small additional charge to offset the cost of wood, fresh water and cleaning beforehand), so you can enjoy this experience without being disturbed. Bookings can be made according to availability. If you book all 4 cottages for a group, you have exclusive use of whole lodge and the KolKol hot tub. Owner's cottage has its own kolkol. You can also have a wander through the herb garden, and even forage for some tasty treats for your cooking - all freshly picked. Several walking trails through the reserve of different length and difficulty ensure there is something for everybody. Children are only accommodated by prior arrangement. Postponement Policy: Inform us as soon as possible via email if you would like to postpone your stay. A fee may apply.
