Smithy Cottage provides a wonderful base for couples, friends and small families looking to holiday in North Devon surrounded by glorious unspoilt countryside and yet still within easy reach of the coast and plenty of things to do and see nearby. Smithy Cottage provides a wonderful base for couples, friends and small families looking to holiday in North Devon surrounded by glorious unspoilt countryside and yet still within easy reach of the coast and plenty of things to do and see nearby. Recently renovated and furnished , you enter Smithy Cottage from the main courtyard into a cosy living and dining space. Lovely duck egg blue sofas, a flat screen TV with Freeview and a DVD player provides a lovely relaxing space. A fold out dining table comfortably seats 4 for leisurely breakfasts or family suppers. A separate well-equipped kitchen caters for everything you could need on a self catering holiday. Appliances include a electric oven with hob, fridge with a small freezer compartment, dishwasher, microwave and washing machine. Upstairs, there are two well-presented bedrooms, both with exposed beams that adds to its countryside charm. There is a lovely double bedroom with a double bed and plenty of storage, plus a twin room with two full size single beds and a built in wardrobe. These are both serviced by a recently renovated bathroom with a bath and shower overhead, wash basin, heated towel and WC. Outside, in the communal courtyard, an outdoor table and seating have been provided for guests to relax and make the most of the sunshine. Guests are also welcome to roam and explore the 4.5 acres of communal grounds. A large lawned area is now home to a brand new outdoor children's play area, swings and goalie posts. This area is also fenced off and there is gated access to the lakes. There are also two private fishing lakes at Lower Aylescott. These are only for the use of residents at Lower Aylescott. They are well-stocked with carp, rudd and tench. They tend to be long, lean and healthy fish as they are not over fished and over fed. The carp are generally between 30 to 50cm, weighing between 3lb to 5lb. A Ghost Carp was recently spotted too! Guests are reminded to bring their own license, rods and baits. There are plenty of lovely countryside walks surrounding the cottages. The village of West Down is only a mile away, and has an excellent village shop and pub. Just a short drive away are the larger resorts of Ilfracombe, Woolacombe and Braunton, where you'll find an excellent choice of supermarkets, independent shops, good pubs, cafes and restaurants. There is even Michelin star restaurants in Ilfracombe such Thomas Carr @ The Olive Room. The stunning 3 mile stretch of golden sands at Woolacombe is only a 10 minute drive away, and is popular with families and surfers due to its clean sands, clean waters and excellent surf. There are numerous family attractions including Exmoor Zoo, Ilfracombe Aquarium, Watermouth Castle, Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park, plus the wilds of Exmoor National Park are just a short drive away. Guest access Guests have access to the whole of the property and the shared on site facilities.
