Tranquil Cove on Sebec Lake
Tranquil Cove on Sebec Lake
Description
Get back to the best things about life! Relax in our quiet cove. Our quaint home is tucked away in a wooded corner on Lake Sebec. We invite you to explore the lake and land. Go for walks, swim, kayak, boat, hike, or hang back and read, play games, make a meal with friends, or work, if you must. Warm up by the indoor fireplace after a nearby hike on a brisket autumn eve or roast marshmallows on the outdoor fire pit. Sit down by the lake and take in the life that surrounds you. The space Our unique year round lakefront home has a similar design to "The Cliffs", a Georgian mansion in Fairmont Park, Philadelphia. It boasts quality construction with crown moldings, wood burning fireplace, an open staircase, and wood floors. The family room is surrounded by windows, has cathedral ceilings and a sleeping loft, along with an atrium door that opens out to the beautifully wooded yard and waterfront. Tranquil Cove is situated on the edge of Sebec Lake, in a beautifully wooded wildlife haven, about a half-mile from the public boat launch. During the summer months, the old dock is perfect for an early morning meditation or journal entry, and the new dock best for mid-day sunbathing or swim, and an anytime kayak. Gather around our outdoor firepit and relax on cool autumn or spring nights. Summertime begs for roasting marshmallows and fireside conversation. A nice summer breeze can take care of the mosquitoes, and there are plenty of dragonflies to help with them too, yet be sure to bring some repellent, you are in the woods! The lakeside covered porch is great for a cup of morning joe or glass of wine while grilling up dinner. Or leave open the doors to the vaulted family-room and enjoy the open-air from our comfortable couches. The dining area is a special place to enjoy a long dinner conversation or game of cards. Dim the lights and have a romantic anniversary dinner while the evening light filters through the surrounding windows. Winter (by request only) is special here too. The fireplace is our favorite, especially first thing on a chilly morning, while a peaceful snow falls and all things begin to wake. Or to warm your toes after a snowshoe through the local trails. A full-moon, midnight walk on the frozen lake is also unique. The starry nights are exceptional, away from the bright city lights. Many local people enjoy ice-fishing and there are plenty of snowmobile trails nearby. It’s a good idea to bring in food. Our kitchen is fully equipped for most any meal. There are some condiments on-site: salt/pepper/spices/oil/coffee/tea. Once you settle down, you may not want to go out. Although, there are several fun food experiences within a 30-minute drive. Be sure to check out The Mill, Peace Love & Waffles and The Riverside Grill in the nearby town of Dover-Foxcroft, and Elaine's Cafe & Bakery and plus McLaughlin's Family Restaurant in Milo. Both towns have groceries too, but they're about 20 minutes away. If you love the outdoors, like we do, you may take advantage of Peaks Kenny State Park, on the other side of Sebec Lake. It’s one of our favorites for its hidden white sandy beach (just a short distance to the right of the main beach), its fairytale hiking trails, pavilion and playground too. And the views are amazing. There is kayak and canoe rentals available there, as well. It’s a great place for a late afternoon picnic. If you're outdoor spirit begs adventure, The Gulf Hagas area, which is part of the AT (Appalachian Trail) is just 30 minutes away. There you will find Katadin Ironworks and a checkpoint leading to the AT and Rim Trail, Pleasant River Tote Trail, a 8-9 mile waterfall loop hike including Screw Auger Falls. You can find blueberry picking and even a local paintball arena, if you’re really adventurous. Have a great stay in this beautiful hidden region of Maine. Step out into nature or retreat into a good book, take in the sounds of the loons, the bullfrogs…watch for soaring eagles or our playful otter friends. The deer frequent here too. There is much to enjoy about this place. Book a stay with us and see for yourself. Guest access The entire house is available from April - Nov. This includes the two bedrooms with queen beds and a loft containing a double and two twin beds, full kitchen with breakfast nook, main sitting area with fireplace, large family livingroom, two full bathrooms, beautiful dining room, basement game table, plus laundry. The rear covered porch is also accessible plus outdoor firepit and dock. This space allows for up to 6 guests easily. During the winter months, we may close off the family room, loft area and one bathroom, but the main house is cozy and pleasant for four guests max with the two queen bedrooms, full bath, sitting area with fireplace and dining nook. Other things to note Our location is rural. In the event of certain inclement weather, the power can go out for a bit. Please note that this house is not yet equipped with a generator, so be sure to fill some pots with water if you suspect strong winds or heavy wet snow. There are plenty of candles – certainly handle with care. The fireplace sitting area is my favorite in the winter. Especially first thing in the morning. Be sure to reach up and open the flue before lighting up your logs. Do not leave any fires unattended and scoop up the coals and ash into the fire bucket before going out or at the end of your stay. You can store it in the fireplace - for your safety, please. During certain winter weather, all-wheel-drive or 4-wheel is best for the slightly sloped driveway. We have a reliable internet, but no TV. Certainly stream all your favorite movies and shows to your personal devices. If you're in the mood for a family movie, we can provide you with a projector and screen. Just ask, and we'll leave it for you.
