WELCOME TO AN ENCHANTED PARADISE! Nestled in the most fertile part of the mountainous tropical rainforest region of Northern Guanacaste, the Lucky Bug B & B is a boutique Bed and Breakfast. From the paintings that adorn the walls to the hand painted sinks and tiles, the five spacious and exquisitely furnished rooms reflect the work of the Costa Rican artisans who supply the gallery. This beautiful room has a two Twin Beds, faces the rain forest, a private bathroom with a hot shower, and has been exquisitely decorated with items from the Lucky Bug Gallery. In 1995, the Krauskopf family immigrated from Mt. Shasta, California to the Lake Arenal. For income, they made sausages and sold them from the back of a truck. In time, the sausages became so popular, that the line extended for as far as the eye could see. This was the genesis of the restaurant Caballo Negro. Monika and Wille had triplet daughters who were eight years old when they arrived in Costa Rica They were trying to describe a ladybug and it kept coming out Lucky Bug, so that was how they arrived at that name.. They wanted to finance rescuing dogs and cats and other animals by selling art pieces. This was the beginning of the Lucky Bug Gallery. Now it is known throughout Costa Rica as a gallery with fine pieces of Costa Rican art, ceramics, sculptures and other things that are not seen in one place at other stores in the country. With Willie passing away, and the triplets out of the nest to pursue their own lives, Monika keeps the gallery, restaurant and bed and breakfast thriving. Our B&B is located a short 5 minute drive to downtown Nuevo Arenal, where you can find grocery stores, restaurants for dinner, and a bank with an ATM. We are also located about 30 minutes from the dam for Lake Arenal, and 45 minutes to the volcano for hiking, zip lining, hot springs, etc. The drive around the lake is breath-taking and never gets old even for the locals.
