Description
The Hide is a unique architect-designed off-grid cabin perched above a crystal-clear creek in the Byron Hinterland. Swim in any number of the cool water holes along the creek just minutes’ walk from the cabin. It’s not a five-star facility, but you’ll be able to dine under a thousand stars on the deck amongst the amazing rainforest trees With no wi-fi or mobile reception you’ll be fully immersed in the forest and creek environments, disconnected from your every-day woes. The space You’ll be staying on the unceded lands of the Widjabul Wia-bal people of the Bundjalung Nation. It is a privilege for us to be able to share this small patch of their Country with you during your stay. We pay our respect to elders past, present and emerging. We acknowledge their continual cultural, spiritual, and educational practices. Your simple yet stylish one room cabin has a small kitchenette with fridge, gas burner and filtered rainwater. In winter light a fire outside and keep an eye out for sugar gliders, owls or Tawny Frogmouths in the treetops or simply cosy up indoors. In the “bush-bathroom” you’ll find a generous warm shower and low-fi composting toilet with high-quality views. Here in the hinterland, you’ll experience Australian wildlife first-hand. Birdlife is abundant, we see both Black and Sulphur-Crested Cockatoos, Spangled Drongos, King Parrots, Wompoo Pigeons, Kookaburras, Azure Kingfishers and many more. Wallabies, paddymelon, koalas, echidnas, platypus, turtles, goannas, pythons and frogs are all seen around here – it all depends upon the season. Relax on the sand or in a rockpool by the creek during day or, for the brave, try night swimming by moonlight - it’s an exhilarating experience. Guest access Guests have access to the entire property and the adjacent creek. Our house is close by, you’ll be able to use our satellite internet connection to book a restaurant, check the weather / surf conditions, or connect with loved ones in case of emergency. Our friendly (i.e. noisy) dog will always say “hello” – you may even hear him in the distance singing along to our son’s piano on occasion. This beautiful valley is bordered by national parks and conservation areas. It’s a five-minute drive to the spectacular Minyon Falls with many other waterfalls, walks, mountain bike tracks and beaches not far away. Mullumbimby is the nearest store which is 30 minutes away – so best come prepared with all your cooking needs. Brunswick Heads is just 10 mins further on and is a great place for a swim in the river or ocean. Byron Bay, Lennox and Bangalow are all within an hour’s drive. Then again why drive that when you’ve come to unplug and unwind?!? Registration Details PID-STRA-59333
