Lydd House is just steps away from the spectacular ultra-fine white sand of Rockley Beach- one of the most popular stretches of beach along the Barbados coast. The space From Rockley Beach aka Accra, you can take a leisurely stroll along the Boardwalk, which extends to Hastings. It’s become a favourite among locals and visitors alike– a wonderful place to exercise, people watch, or even spot a nesting sea turtle. There are also great bars and restaurants on the Boardwalk such as Blakey’s, Tapas and Naru. Lydd House is one of 6 residences on Skeete’s Hill - a secondary road which runs along the coastline off the south coast main road. It's located right next door to one of the most popular restaurants on the Island – 'Champers Restaurant and Wine Bar', and is within comfortable walking distance (no more than 10 -15 minutes) to other restaurants, supermarkets, bars, coffee shops, juice bars and the St Lawrence Gap entertainment district. The Historic Garrison Savannah, a 15 minute walk, has been home of horse-racing dating back to the 1800s. Bridgetown and its Garrison was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Despite Lydd’s central location, once inside the property you are are no longer aware of all of the surrounding activity. There’s always the constant sound of the sea, waves crashing against the cliff, the gentle rustle of the trade winds, and the spectacular sunsets. Depending on the time of year and the tides, it’s about as close to being on a boat as you can get on land. There is a surf break off the house and when surf's up, the sound of the waves against the cliff can be quite loud. If you are averse to this sound, then this location might not be suitable. Taxis and public transportation are readily available. Lydd House was built at the turn of the 1900s with two-foot thick coral walls and all of the architectural trims of the period. It has been renovated to provide the interior trappings of a modern, contemporary villa while preserving the original architectural features of the exterior. This property is the ideal home away from home for couples, friends or a family. The 2500 sq.ft. main level suite is comprised of two air-conditioned bedrooms (one with an ocean view) with en suite bathrooms and an open-planned living area featuring a modern, fully equipped kitchen. The interior flows onto a private pool-deck with outdoor dining areas, balcony, garden gazebo and an additional cantilevered deck- perfect for an early morning coffee and afternoon sundowners! Guests have exclusive access to all main-level areas. For the more adventurous, there is often a good surf break in front of the house. Turtles can often be seen coming up for air and there is excellent snorkeling on the breakwater reef off Accra beach. The owners reside in the upstairs apartment but the separation of the spaces allows for privacy of both areas. This holiday home is an ideal location from which to explore our lovely island of Barbados! Other things to note We are an oceanfront, cliff-side property. When there is high surf, the sound of crashing waves against the cliff face can be noisy, and may not be everybody's 'cup of tea'. However, other people enjoy the sound and find it soothing. Of course, the intensity varies according to the time of year and surf conditions. For stays of one week, there is no cleaning fee. However, for longer stays we encourage weekly housekeeping services. The guest will pay the housekeeper directly the fee of $60 US for 4 hours. At this time linen and towels will be replaced. There is also a washing machine and dryer in the unit for guest use.
