Description
Charming 1830s farmhouse. Conveniently located between Ithaca and Geneva. Trumansburg is a short 10 minute drive with access to restaurants, bowling, and cute little shops. Close access to waterfalls, hikes, cideries, wineries, breweries, restaurants and more. We raise sheep on pasture and grow shiitake mushrooms in the woods. We have fruit trees and a small garden. The house is very spacious, with 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Plenty of space to hang out, cook, and play games. The space The house sits on our 22 acre farm. We bought the property in November 2024. We previously lived and farmed down the road, at the Finger Lakes Cider House. The majority of our sheep still graze over there and we are working on moving our mushroom operation over here. We do have a small home flock of sheep that you will likely see grazing out on pasture. It is best to assume that all the electric fencing is electrified, so don’t touch it. There is a big red barn on the property, that is where we live. So we are close by if you ever need anything. You will also see our old home, a 1992 airstream. It is currently unoccupied but we hope to open it up for rental in the future. It housed us in the beginning of our farming days, as we moved farm to farm learning all we could before starting our own farm. We are so glad to be rooted here now and we hope you enjoy the beautiful property as much as we do. Guest access The whole house is yours for the stay. There is a small door in the blue and white room that leads to a crawl space, please don’t open that door. It’s tricky to get shut properly. The door that leads to the basement has a latch on it. The house should be well stocked for your stay but if you need any extra supplies they can be found in there. Please don’t enter the red barn, this is where we live :) Other things to note Please keep in mind that this house is almost 200 years old. One of the oldest standing houses in Interlaken. This means that it has some little quirks to it. Many of the light switches are in weird locations, not where you would naturally reach for them. So it takes a little looking around to find them. We are on well water that goes through a filter and is safe to drink. We also have extremely hard water here so there is a water softener as well. The house isn’t sealed extremely tightly which leaves space for some bugs to get in. We are working hard to try to keep them out, but you might see some ladybugs, shield bugs, and spiders during the season. We have seen a noticeable decline since we have taken some measures to keep them out. But we are an organic farm so we do attract a vast array of wildlife and while the bugs are less enjoyable than some of the other amazing creatures, they all come with the territory. In the winter, we place space heaters in the rooms to keep the house cozy. They are strategically placed at certain outlets as to not overload the circuits. If they get moved around the breaker will likely trip. If this happens, we are happy to come turn it back on or if you are comfortable you can do it. The breaker is down the basement stairs on the right hand side. Simply flip the tripped one back on. The water heater is a 50 gallon water heater so it’s good to be aware if you are a large group. If you take extremely long showers while running the washing machine you might run out of hot water. So best to space things out if you are a larger group.
