Description
Set in the peaceful Hamlet of Woodbridge, Goldacre Cottage is ideally situated for an escape where you can kick back and relax. Sat deep in the rolling Devon Hills, at the heart of the East Devon AONB, you will feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere but you’re not actually far from anywhere. Set off of a private track peace and tranquillity is what surrounds you. A carefully thought out, quirky, cosy and stylish cottage awaits you with outstanding views. The space From the parking area you step straight on the back patio with modern bench and into the open plan kitchen/dining/lounge space. A lovingly restored Victorian table which extends and balloon back chairs greet you. The kitchen is fitted with all mod cons and there are large doors out onto the main patio with beautiful views which can be enjoyed from the comfy garden furniture set. The lounge area has a large 4 seater Joules sofa, 2 pouffes and an additional chair can be added for larger groups. There are board games, books and a large log burner (enough logs, kindling and lighters for the first fire). Up 3 steps to the double height boot room space, coat rack, bench and family bathroom. A further 3 steps takes you to the good sized twin and king bedrooms. The king has a walk in wardrobe and all beds are sourced from The Old English Bed Company. Up 5 steps to the master suite with French style rattan bed, built in wardrobes and Tea tray. The master has its own en-suite with large walk in shower and extra large rain head. Upstairs is carpeted in sisal with a cast iron radiator to keep you cosy. Everywhere else is engineered oak or flagstones with underfloor heating. The layout means there is no large flight of stairs, rather a quirky layout with a few steps here and there. Other things to note Goldacre Cottage is ideally situated to explore both the impressive Jurassic Coast and the outstanding Devon, Somerset and Dorset countryside. Just 7 miles from the cottage are the pretty coastal villages of Beer and Branscombe where you can find a working fishing beach, independent shops, cafes and restaurants and a fabulous restaurant on the beach at Branscombe. The regency town of Sidmouth has a bustling seafront and a beautiful walk along the river Sid called the Bys. Sandy beaches with many facilities can be found at Lyme Regis and Exmouth. We couldn’t be better placed for walks! The options start straight from the cottage door with the East Devon Way, locally there is Blackbury Camp, Hembury Fort and the South West Coastal path. The Blackdown Hills are a short drive away and Dartmoor National Park, famed for its Tors, is under an hours drive. Exeter is a 30 minute drive - take a city tour, visit the RAMM museum for free, explore the cathedral or simply enjoy a drink by the quay. Bicton Botanical Gardens has plenty to keep everyone occupied. Local attractions include Seaton Tramway - ride to ‘the most rebellious town’, Colyton, or explore the Wetlands - a bird lovers paradise. The donkey sanctuary is free and a lovely day out. Charmouth isn’t far and a fossil hunting dream! Many events & festivals also occur locally eg Beautiful Days, Wiscombe & Honiton Hill Rally’s and Sidmouth Jazz festival. We are fortunate to have 3 local vineyards; Lyme Bay, Castlewood and Heron Farm - they offer tours and make great wine - worth a visit! There are many local quality food options; Mark Hix - Lyme, River Cottage - Axminster, Glebe House - Southleigh, Michael Caine’s - Lympstone Manor, The Pig - Gittisham, The Jack in the Green - Rockbeare, the Holt - Honiton. We are also spoilt for choice when it comes to great local pubs, many with children’s play equipment and farm shops with ‘field kitchens’. As one guest called it “a slice of heaven in East Devon.”
