It is well located for nature sport enthusiasts. The cottage has one queen bed and 2 single beds. It is ideal for a couple or a maximium of 2 adults and 2 children. It is self-contained & self-catering. A short set of steps along a solid banister lead down to the entrance of the cottage. The bedroom window opens into the adjoining mountain fynbos garden which is in full flower and leaf in springtime during Sept-Dec. A truly panoramic view of the bay, as shown in the cover photo, can be had when walking along the top access road. Further down the steps, the front door offers a more limited sea view, which expands when viewed from the higher level viewpoint of the garden. Interior The front door leads to the sitting room with a breakfast table and chairs, as well as a comfortable sofa which can be opened up into two single stack beds. At the far end of the open-plan living room is a well-equipped kitchen, fitted with a double sink, fridge/freezer, gas hob, electrical oven, microwave, and toaster. Stainless steel cookware and an enamel kettle are provided for use. Cutlery, crockery and glassware are provided for 4 persons. Above the stove is a metered switchboard which allows guests to choose the amount of electricity required to heat hot water for the shower. The passage leads to the main bedroom, past a spacious passage cupboard. The bedroom has ample storage, with space for suitcases at the top. The bed is queen size, extra length. We use high quality linens and fluffy non-allergenic pillows. Cellular cotton blankets in summer, and a goose down duvet in winter are provided with additional blankets for customized temperature control during sleep. The bathroom has a shower, towel dryer, toilet, hand basin, a washing machine and dryer. Luxurious 100% pure cotton towels and beach towels are provided. Cape Town and the Western Cape are water stressed areas, so please be aware of water use where possible. The bedroom and sitting room have window blinds with a sunblock lining to ensure that your nights are dark. Exterior The property is very well situated for nature lovers, being next to the Table Mountain nature reserve. Absolutely fabulous walks and hikes start a few metres from the property. The very fit can choose to hike to Cape Point and back. Or walk down to the sea which takes 10 - 15 minutes. Garden In spring and early summer (Sept-Dec), the indigenous mountain fynbos garden is in full flower, and attracts numerous local birds such as Cape White eye, Double collared Sunbird, Malachite Sunbird, Redwinged Starlings, Bokmakierie, Piet-my-Vrou, and various doves and pigeons. On the mountain above the house, as well as on the streets in the area, Helmeted Guinea Fowls and Francolins abound. On some evenings or nights, you will hear the magical call of Spotted Eagle owls. For star gazers, the Southern Cross constellation is easily visible in the night sky, as well as all other stars normally visible in the southern hemisphere. On full moon nights, a beautiful moonbeam lies over the ocean, and is visible from the high level garden. Outdoor and indoor exercise The is a paradise for outdoor exercise: walks/hikes, golf, surfing, sea kayaking, Stand Up Paddle (SUP), canoeing, wind surfing, hydrofoil, swimming, surfing, boogie boarding, horse riding on the beach, line and spear fishing, scuba diving, free diving, beach jogging, as well as yoga, Pilates, gym, and an array of different aerobic and stretching exercises. Guest access Guests have access to the cottage via the steps that lead from the access gate. The steps are also used by myself to access the garage. A wooden gate at the bottom of the steps marks the end of guest access. The area beyond that is private property and not accessible by guests, although guests may make use of the washing line when needed. Guests may walk or sit in the mountain fynbos garden adjacent to the cottage to enjoy their meals and drinks on the rocks. It is a wonderful spot on warm evenings, to watch the moon move overhead from the ocean or to watch stars and meteor showers move across the sky. Outside chairs and a table are available on request. There is no guest access beyond the small wooden gate please. Other things to note PARKING: Guests may park one car outside the property in front of the BROWN garage door on the LEFT hand side of the parking area demarcated with small white stones. My own car enters the garage on the right hand side of the parking. Cars are not allowed to park in the road outside the property. STAYING AT FYNBOS SEA COTTAGE: The cottage is well insulated from the cold and damp in winter, and pleasantly well wind-ventilated during summer. Previous guests have enjoyed the quiet nights and the high quality mattress of the main bed. PAY-AS-YOU-GO ELECTRICITY: R100 free electricity is provided with every booking. Thereafter guests may load electricity on the meter according to their own usage. FYNBOS GARDEN: The Western Cape has a Mediterranean climate with the main rainy season in winter from May-Sept. The vegetation grows in winter and flowers in springtime during Oct-Dec. Summer weather in Jan - March is hot and dry, and water stressed, causing the plants to die back and become dry and brown due to the summer heat. The garden may look different to the photos during those months.
