Our cottage is located on Lake Memphremagog, an international lake shared with Canada. Visit our nearby hobby farm/children’s museum. Kayak, bike or hike to stunning natural settings or take day trips to a variety of interesting destinations, including maple sugar shops, alpaca or dairy farms, golf courses, a ski resort with indoor waterpark; or cross the Canadian border a few miles away and explore Quebec. A boat dock is available for use at our cottage with an access ramp a 1/4 mile away. The home, (cottage, "camp") is located on Lake Memphremagog, a gorgeous international lake shared with Canada. There are 3 bedrooms. One has a double bed, one has twin beds and another has twin beds that were originally a bunk bed. The later are suitable for adults to sleep on, but would be best for children. The furniture is dated, but the views of the lake make up for it. The kitchen and bathroom were updated 2017. The kitchen looks out to the open dining and living area which all look out onto flower gardens lining the lake. The area across the lane from the house (where you see a tan shed) is our property. You are welcome to use that area for games or look for wildlife in the inlet there. Please park a second car there rather than on our lawn where the septic is located. The location is just 5 minutes from the city of Newport, 10 minutes from the border of Quebec province with a whole other world to explore, and 20 minutes from Jay Peak Family Resort. We will usually leave the door open and guests will find a key on the kitchen counter or table upon their arrival. When leaving we ask that guests leave the key in the same spot. Arrival and departure times are flexible depending on the needs of the guests and whether we have back-to-back guests. For the most part we are available to answer questions about the area and make recommendations for visits to local sites, restaurants, etc. We also leave a notebook on the table giving suggestions of things to do. Otherwise, we will leave the guests to enjoy the area on their own. The house is located on a quiet, dead-end peninsula with a boat dock facing the lack and access to an inlet on the backside of the house. The inlet is a great place to observe wildfowl, turtles laying on the rocks, and catfish swimming around. For famlly-style reasonably priced eating there is Hoagies in town at the Waterfront Plaza. We really enjoy the Thai restaurant on Main Street. The Natural Foods Cafe is a casual place to have lunch. Lagos and the Belvidere (gorgeous lake views) both on or just off Main Street are more high end. There is no public transit to the house. The TV gets local antenna reception. There are usually about 4 stations available (sometimes more). The TV has a built in DVD player. There are several Redboxes for DVD rental located nearby. There is no Wifi but in town there are plenty of places to access wifi for free. The town is only 5 minutes away. Plenty of pots, pans, (granted not the newest) plates, glasses, silverware and cooking utensils are available. A washer, a dryer, a microwave, a coffee maker, a toaster oven, a blender, a crockpot, an electric griddle, a vacuum and an iron /ironing board are also available. The GPS sometimes gets confused when getting close to our house. Please write down the specific directions I gave, or give us a call when arriving at Campbell Rd just off of Lake Rd. The water is city water and is safe to drink. Because we are so close to Canada, it is important to make sure your cell phone does not roam to the towers in Canada.
