Comfortably sleeping up to 4 guests, this self catering holiday cottage is one of six cottages at Lower Aylescott and provides the perfect base for couples, friends or small families looking for a quiet break yet still explore the very best of what North Devon has to offer. With the North Devon coast renowned for its golden sands, clean waters and excellent surf, plenty of local family attractions nearby and the wilds of Exmoor also only a short drive away, there is plenty to keep everyone entertained, no matter your age. From the central courtyard, there is a private entrance for Royd Cottage that leads into a lounge featuring two leather sofas, a flat screen TV with Freeview and a DVD player. On the ground floor, there is also a well-equipped kitchen/diner, where a large table comfortably seats up to 4 guests for leisurely breakfasts, or supper. Appliances include an electric oven and hob, a fridge with a small freezer compartment, a washing machine, microwave and a dishwasher. The two bedrooms are both on the first floor and are serviced by a family bathroom, which has been recently renovated and features a bath with shower over head, wash basin and WC. The two bedrooms are one double bedroom and a twin room, with two full size single beds. Both rooms feature a lot of the period charm including exposed wood beams and exposed stone walls. At the front of the cottage in the communal courtyard, outdoor furniture has been provided so guests can relax and enjoy the stunning views, perhaps with a glass of wine or a cold beer. Guests are also welcome to roam and explore the extensive grounds at Lower Aylescott, the jetty and benches around the lakes provide a wonderful quiet place to relax and enjoy some ‘time out’. The two private fishing lakes are only available for the use of guests at Lower Aylescott. They are well-stocked with carp, rudd and tench. As they not overfished or over fed, they tend to be long, lean and healthy fish. A long lean Ghost carp was recently spotted too. Guests are asked to bring their own license, rod and baits. The lakes are fenced off with gated access. There is a huge lawned field so kids can play safely, and is now home to a new outdoor children’s area complete with a tube slide, climbing wall and rope bridge. Just a mile away from Lower Aylescott is the village of West Down, with it’s well stocked village shop or enjoy a local real ale or home cooked meal at The Crown Inn. A greater choice of excellent restaurants, pubs, cafes and tearooms can be found in either Ilfracombe, Braunton and Woolacombe. There are numerous attractions including National Trust Arlington Court, Broomhill Sculpture Gardens, The Cliff Railway at Lynton and Lynmouth, the historic Tunnels beaches in Ilfracombe, plus for the kids there is Exmoor Zoo, Combe Martin Dinosaur and Wildlife Park to name a few. For those looking for a fishing holiday, after fishing the lakes they can head over to Ilfracombe pier or take a fishing trip along the coast on one of the many charters including the new Sea Swift from Ilfracombe Sea Safari. Guest access The guest can access Royd Cottage, use the communal courtyard, roam the grounds and the outdoor play area.
