Description

Enjoy the natural beauty surrounding this quiet shepherd's hut set in the grounds of a historic original Tudor Manor. 'Hobbit hole' is an ideal break for anything between one night and a week, or more. Only 5 minutes from junction 9 of the M5, it's set in a rural farming hamlet, 2 miles out of Tewkesbury, and 20 mins drive to Cheltenham and Gloucester. The 'Hobbit hole' enjoys free car parking, and sits in a gravel area overlooking a herb & veg garden with shady trees overlooking a young orchard The space The 'Hobbit Hole' is a good-sized well-insulated shepherd's hut. With electric heating, it's cosy enough for the coldest of winter nights. It consists of an open sitting area which houses a well-stocked kitchenette, with fridge, airfryer, a twin electric induction hob, and a fold down table. There is also ample storage space. At one end of the hut, there are two single orthopaedic beds (note the length may be a little challenging for anyone over 6'2!). At the other end of the hut, there is a shower, small handwashing basin and a portaloo. Outside, there is a dedicated space fenced off from the vegetable garden, with a two-seater outdoor settee, firepit/grill and table/bench. The 'Hobbit Hole' provides an ideal, tranquil space where you can enjoy nature. Tewkesbury is 5 mins drive away, and Cheltenham 15/20. Both towns are located near the Cotswold hills and provide historical and contemporary charm with Regency-style architecture (Cheltenham), original Tudor buildings (Tewkesbury) and renowned festivals such as the Cheltenham literature and science festivals, and the Tewkesbury Medieval festival. The 'Hobbit Hole' also provides an ideal base for the Cheltenham races. Other things to note Local Amenities: Food Shopping. The nearest stores (within 2 miles) are the BP petrol garage on the A46 back towards junction 9 of the M5, and the large Dobbies garden centre nearby (take the first exit at the mini roundabout just before you get to the A46 at Ashchurch), which has a small Waitrose. There is a cafe and a restaurant at Dobbies, as well. The nearest supermarket is Morrisons, located this side of Tewkesbury (this has a laundrette). On the other side of Tewkesbury there is an Aldi, as well as the usual high street shops located in the town centre. Tewkesbury. The nearest town and around 2.5 miles away. It has a historic charm to it, with interesting narrow alleyways and an impressive Abbey. In July, every year Tewkesbury hosts a renowned Medieval festival with a full-scale War of the Roses reenactment. The Roses theatre often has excellent productions. Cheltenham. Famous for its Spa, Regency architecture and the Cheltenham Races including Gold cup week in mid-March. Cheltenham is 8 miles away and reached in about 15/20 mins by car. There are retail parks located on the Tewkesbury road, before you get into the town centre. Taxis/Ubers can get you there and back, and prices may be around £15-25 depending on time of day and season/events. We may be able to offer you a drop off in Cheltenham if we are around and heading that way. There are local buses too, and the nearest stop is at the Odessa Inn on the Gloucester Road heading south of Tewkesbury (around 1.75 miles away). Cheltenham also hosts excellent festivals including the Literature and Science festivals, as well as concerts and arts/music events. Gloucester. The city is 12 miles away and reached by car in around 20/25 mins. There are also local buses too, with the nearest stop at the Odessa Inn. The city is well known for its history, rugby and impressive cathedral. The Docks are worth a visit with a range of eateries and discounted retail outlets at Gloucester Docks. Other towns and villages worth visiting: Broadway, Bredon, Bourton on the Water, Stow on the Wold, Winchcombe. Sherdons Golf Centre. Located less than a mile away down the lane towards Tredington, with an 18-hole course, a driving range and mini-golf course. Local Walks. There are plenty of public footpaths, and pleasant lanes to roam around. Further afield you have the beautiful Cotswolds. Crickley hill, Cleeve Hill, Bredon Hill and Leckhampton hill are especially worth a visit, along with the Cotswold Way.
