Seagrass - Fab Beach House a minute from the beach

Description

Tucked away on a private sandy lane with just three houses, Seagrass is a relaxed and beautifully designed beach house just moments from Camber Sands. There is no passing traffic here. Instead, you can hear the sea, catch glimpses of the dunes and wander down to the beach in minutes. The space A real Tardis of a house, Seagrass is far more spacious than it first appears, something guests consistently comment on. All on one level, it sleeps up to ten, with three king size bedrooms and a handmade bunk room designed with children and teenagers in mind. The layout naturally separates the quiet bedrooms from the sociable heart of the house, with plenty of space for families and friends to come together and plenty of room to spread out. Seagrass is wonderful in summer, but just as special through autumn and winter, when Camber is quieter and you can sometimes have great stretches of beach almost to yourself. Warm, cosy and made for gathering, it is a lovely house for winter weekends, Christmas and New Year too. Seagrass has featured in British Travel Journal ‘Discover the Splendour of East Sussex – Camber & Rye’ . INSIDE SEAGRASS Enter through the fully enclosed front garden and follow the path to the front door. Inside, the bedrooms are to the right and the main living spaces to the left, keeping sleeping and social areas comfortably separate. At the heart of Seagrass is the large, light filled kitchen, with its vaulted ceiling, limestone floor and underfloor heating. A generous island naturally becomes the gathering place for morning coffee, breakfast, drinks and cooking together, while French doors open straight onto the rear garden and deck. The kitchen is exceptionally well equipped, something guests mention again and again, with a Rangemaster induction cooker, large Fisher & Paykel fridge freezer with water dispenser and ice maker, Nespresso Vertuo machine, Bosch dishwasher and large walk in larder with microwave. There is also a separate WC and basin just off the kitchen. Next door, the dining room has a large wooden table made for long lunches and dinners, with French doors opening onto the garden. Beyond is the cosy blue sitting room, with a huge velvet corner sofa, log burner and 55 inch Smart TV. Natural materials, soft colour and thoughtfully considered lighting create a warm, laid back atmosphere throughout. As evening falls, dim the lights and settle in. Linger over dinner around the big table, curl up by the fire with a book, or bring out one of the family games. The family bathroom has handmade pink Zellige tiles, sage green flooring with underfloor heating, a double ended bath, large walk in shower, WC and basin. There is also a second shower room and basin beside the bedrooms, plus the separate WC off the kitchen. Heating and hot water are provided by a new air source heat pump, keeping the house warm and cosy throughout the year. SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS AT SEAGRASS Oak parquet flooring, seagrass rugs and linen curtains run throughout the bedrooms. Comfort is taken seriously too, with excellent mattresses, fresh Egyptian cotton bed linen and bathroom towels provided. Bedroom 1: The largest of the three king size bedrooms, with a Hypnos mattress and decorated in soft pink and blue tones. Bedroom 2: The medium sized king size bedroom, with an Emma mattress, calming peach and sage tones and French doors opening directly onto the front garden. Bedroom 3: The smaller of the three king size bedrooms, with a Hypnos mattress, soft sage tones and French doors opening directly onto the front garden. Bedroom 4, The Bunk Room: A small, cosy room with two handmade bunk beds, each with a standard single size mattress, reading light and shelf. A small wooden staircase gives easy access to the upper bunks without awkward ladders, and the room is decorated in playful Neapolitan ice cream colours. OUTSIDE THE PROPERTY Seagrass has two private, fully enclosed gardens. At the front is a lawn, also accessed directly from two of the bedrooms. To the rear is a secluded, south facing garden, a real sun trap sheltered from the coastal winds. The kitchen and dining room both open directly onto the large deck, making it an easy extension of the house for long lunches, evening drinks and barbecues. The garden takes its inspiration from the landscape of nearby Dungeness and Derek Jarman’s famous garden, with pebbles, coastal grasses and relaxed planting. Festoon lights zigzag overhead, creating a lovely glow as evening falls. When it is time for the beach, grab the beach chairs and umbrella and wander down the sandy lane. Afterwards, the handy back gate gives you easy access straight into the rear garden, where you can wash off the sand and salt under the hot outdoor shower. The shed houses a washing machine and tumble dryer, as well as additional outdoor chairs and cushions. CAMBER AND BEYOND The skies are part of the magic here too. Look out for starlings swooping in murmuration directly above the house and Camber’s spectacular sunsets. On a clear evening, take a drink down to the beach, watch the sun disappear over the horizon, then wander home for dinner around the big table. Out of season, Camber has a different kind of magic. Autumn and winter bring quieter beaches, sometimes with huge stretches of sand almost to yourself. Head out for a blustery walk, then come home to the warmth of Seagrass, put a roast in the oven and settle in by the fire. With plenty of room to gather and plenty of space to spread out, it is a lovely house for winter weekends, Christmas and New Year. Rye is around ten minutes away by car, with its cobbled streets, independent shops, restaurants and pubs. Dungeness and its extraordinary landscape are around 15 minutes away, while nearby Rye Watersports offers sailing, windsurfing, paddleboarding and East Sussex’s only Aqua Park. The vineyards, villages and countryside of East Sussex and Romney Marsh are all within easy reach. London is around two hours away. Seagrass is dog friendly and welcomes up to two dogs. Seasonal dog restrictions apply to parts of Camber Sands from May to September. Other things to note Please add dogs to the booking requirements. There is parking for 2 cars only on the gravel drive. Please do not park in the lane as our neighbours need access in and out of the lane. This property is managed by Camber Holiday Cottages.
