Enjoy a peaceful, comfortable break in our stunning and spacious recently converted, one bedroom, self contained detached barn within the glorious Blackdown Hills (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). Situated on our smallholding within the pretty village of Buckland St Mary, the barn has been renovated to a high specification and is the perfect peaceful and cosy rural retreat. The space Whether you are looking for a short break or a long stay, the barn is perfect for couples or the single person seeking peace and tranquility in the idyllic Somerset countryside. The former traditional stone barn has been recently converted as a labour of love to a stylish and spacious one bedroom, two storey cottage with underfloor heating and open plan living/dining/kitchen area on the ground floor. Fully equipped kitchen with oven/hob, microwave, kettle, toaster, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge with small freezer, cutlery, cups and glasses, saucepans etc. We also provide a few basics such as tea, coffee, sugar, salt, pepper, oil, washing up liquid, dishwasher tabs, clothes washing liquid, fabric softener etc to get you started. DAB radio with bluetooth. The dining table seats 4 and can also be used as a desk for home working if you need to. We are fortunate to have fast Wifi internet speeds here (36 Mbps) which reaches every corner of the property including the private courtyard area. Comfy chez longue sofa in the living area with large 42" flat screen TV with Netflix and Roku - blankets available to curl up under! We also have a selection of general interest books/guides about the Blackdown Hills and Somerset available to read if you are interested in finding out more about our lovely area. On the first floor is a generous sized bedroom with solid oak floor, king size bed with comfy 'Emma' memory foam mattress, chest of drawers, built in wardrobe and Velux windows with built in blackout blinds. A selection of towels are provided. Adjoining the room is the en-suite bathroom with large shower enclosure (with a gloriously powerful shower), basin unit and heated towel rail. From here, lovely views are to be had from the first floor windows over the beautiful Yarty valley! Newly-created pretty private patio/courtyard area with tables and chairs so you can eat alfresco if the weather allows - again wonderful views over the beautiful Yarty valley. We have eco-friendly air source heating and therefore a carbon monoxide alarm is not necessary. Our cottage is situated next door and we are usually around if you need anything at all - otherwise we will leave you to your own devices! Guest access During your stay you’ll have exclusive use of the barn and your own private patio/courtyard area with table and chairs for outdoors dining. As well as the wonderful views across the valley, it gets the sun from noon to the evening. There is also another small courtyard garden seating area for the barn's use which takes advantage of the morning sun. In addition, there is ample space for your vehicle in our main courtyard parking area. Other things to note The scenic local area includes numerous footpaths including a beautiful walk through woodland and a stream, over bridges to Bishopswood, our neighbouring village. There is a wonderful pub only a 15min walk from The Barn called The Candlelight Inn. There are also some great walks a few minutes drive away such as Castle Neroche, Staple Hill and Otterhead Lakes all with dedicated car parks (free). Due to our central location and proximity to the A303, there is easy access to both the North and South coasts and the nearest sandy beach is Lyme Regis (30 min drive).
