Spring has arrived!

Well appointed, comfortable, A-frame home in the charming community of Meadow Valley. Home located on one acre with seasonal stream, ponderosa pines, elms and incense cedar. Close to Bucks Lake, with opportunities for hiking, biking, fishing, backcountry skiing and snowmobiling. The space ABOUT THE CABIN: Beautiful A-frame cabin situated on several acres of rural land. You can cozy up in the living room and watch a movie, or get out in nature and go for a hike. Take your remote work to the mountains with internet and Wi-fi available at no extra charge. Close proximity to Bucks and Almanor Lakes, Mt. Lassen National Park, many great mountain biking options, and off-roading, as well as snowmobiling in the winter months. Bring your own food to cook in our fully equipped kitchen. The cabin also has a fenced yard for pets and an outdoor deck with a propane grill and griddle. Come visit and get away from it all! KITCHEN: Our kitchen is fully stocked with all the essentials you’ll need to prepare and serve your favorite meals. LAUNDRY: The laundry room has a washer and dryer and is stocked with detergent, dryer sheets, and stain remover. MAIN FLOOR: The main floor is super cozy, with several couches, a dining room table with chairs, and a bar with barstools. The TV cabinet is stocked with fun games/puzzles. LOFT: Upstairs, you’ll find a large loft with 1 queen bed, a desk for remote work, and reading chairs/table/lamp. BATHROOM The A-frame has a single downstairs bathroom with a shower and bathtub and is stocked with shampoo, conditioner, and soap. GUEST ACCESS: There is a storage closet upstairs and another pantry adjacent to the downstairs coat closet where our personal effects and cleaning supplies are stored, and the loft upstairs is currently not set up for guest use. Otherwise, feel free to roam around the property and explore the neighborhood. OTHER THINGS TO NOTE: While snowfall is possible from September to May, guests are most likely to encounter snowfall from early December, through the end of March. If you’re considering booking a stay during this timeframe, read on for further details regarding winter travel. TYPICAL WINTER WEATHER: When visiting in the winter guests should be prepared for the possibility of snowfall and extremely cold temperatures. In addition, Meadow Valley can get very windy during winter storms, which can make it difficult to be outside for extended periods of time. While many days in the winter are still quite mild, please do not book this cabin during the winter months unless you are prepared to endure severe Northern California storms. DRIVING: The aforementioned high winds and extreme temperatures can make driving a challenge during the winter months. Guests are advised to use vehicles with all-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive, snow tires, and/or chains, and you should plan to bring emergency provisions such as blankets, snacks, water, flashlights, and a shovel in case you are stranded in your vehicle en route. Occasionally, the roads into Meadow Valley can shut down if there is significant snowfall, so please be prepared! PROVISIONS: We advise guests to bring all the food they are going to need with them since the nearest grocery store is 15 minutes away in good driving conditions. When visiting during these months, we urge guests to bring extra food and provisions in case the roads shut down, or a trip to the grocery store becomes impossible. GETTING COMFORTABLE INSIDE: The A-frame is heated with an oil-fired heater, and a wood stove, as well as several supplemental electric space heaters. Guest access We sometimes shut off the well pump and drain the water lines to prevent frozen pipes. If there is no water flow or pressure when you arrive, simply go to the electrical service panel on the back porch, and turn on the breakers marked Water Heater and Well Pump (numbers 14-15 and 17-19). Leave these on in the winter when you leave unless we request otherwise. Feel free to make a fire in the wood stove. Extra wood is out back under a tarp. There is an oil heater inside near the front door- just adjust the heat up or down as needed. When you leave, please set the oil heater to 50 degrees. There is a vacuum in the coat closet if you need it. The large white plastic container on the kitchen counter is a water filter, which should be filled when you arrive. The well water is great to drink, however, feel free to use this filtered water if desired. This also acts as a back-up water supply if the power goes out, which happens occasionally. Be patient, it is usually only for a couple of hours or less. In the case of a longer power outage, there is an emergency crate in the coat closet with non-perishable food, a butane stove, candles, extra water, etc. If the power does go out, the oil heater will not work and you will need to heat the cabin with the wood stove.
