The space Let yourself in to our warm and huggable 16th Century cottage using the key safe, and head for your recharge in the beautiful Emerald Room with its antiques and nourishing atmosphere decorated in Farrow & Ball teal. Monogrammed waffle-weave robes and soft bamboo towels await you. All this in the beautiful market town of Petworth, on the edge of the South Downs National Park, with its vibrant arts scene and splendid restaurants, cafes, pubs, individual shops and antique emporiums. *Two further bedrooms will be closed for your stay, giving you EXCLUSIVE use of the cottage which is 4 minutes walk from high-end restaurants, takeaways and a fab deli - The Hungry Guest. Or cook up a meal in our fully-equipped kitchen including dishwasher, bakeware, vintage crockery and Le Cruset cookware. (To book all three bedrooms please see our other Petworth listing.) Well-behaved dogs are welcome; please click the button on booking to allow for extra cleaning time before or next guests. If it's the town and arts scene that you seek, a secret passageway leads from Peppermint Cottage to the pavement on the front 'town side' of the property, with its black and white Tudor facade. After two minutes you will reach the magical underground entrance to Petworth House's deer park (free entry from dawn to dusk) with 700 acres to explore and breathtaking views of the South Downs. Petworth House and the Co-op is two minutes' walk further on, as well as the deli with its climate-controlled cheese room (The Hungry Guest). NB. You can also walk to the centre of town on a footpath along the top of fields overlooking the beautiful Shimmings Valley (a map of the footpaths to the rear of the property is provided for guests). This route includes a stunning section of paved rural footpath - with magnificent panoramic views - that leads all the way to The Angel; the town's most popular dining pub! And did you know there is even a CINEMA in pretty Petworth? The Petworth Film House (leconfieldhall dot org dot uk) is just a five-minute stroll away and offers the latest films and a bar, together with regular live-streams from the Royal Opera House. There are usually several films a week. As well as beams galore, Peppermint Cottage has a laundry room with washing machine, butler sink, clothes airer, iron and ironing board to help you prepare for a day out or deal with sandy beach clothes (it's just 25 mins drive from here to the wonderful wild beach of West Wittering). There is a private, named parking space for you to use on the private lane overlooking open countryside at the rear of the property, and further parking nearby if you are bringing two cars. Full details will be provided on these options. Beaches: Petworth is 12 miles or so from the coast - it takes just over half an hour to drive to the wonderful wild beach with dunes and a nature reserve at West Wittering, near Chichester where you can pre-book parking by the sea. Bedroom Details: Like the rest of the cottage, your elegant and inviting bedroom has been exquisitely furnished with antiques and oil paintings, and designed with comfort and quality to the forefront. There is a King-size 5ft-wide bed from the French Bed Company with soft-as-silk bamboo bedlinen and a deep Tempur memory-foam mattress. Features include: en-suite with power shower; John Lewis cushions; new wool carpet; and three lamps, as well as a pretty antique chandelier, that enable you to create the perfect romantic setting. A vintage dressing table completes the scene, and you will have the use of soft monogrammed gowns and bamboo towels during your stay. You will also be able to enjoy a candlelit soak in our full-size bathtub in the main bathroom, and enjoy exclusive use of the rest of this stunning cottage with its kitchen, dining hall and fantastically comfortable sitting room. We have masses of board games, and there are lots of suggestions for walks, dining, beaches to visit, as well as a shelf of Penguin novels to explore! We leave shampoo, conditioner, and bubble bath, together with salt, pepper, olive oil, flour, tea and coffee. BABIES are welcome. We have a cot (with cotton sheet) and a high chair available at no additional charge. DOGS are welcome. Our private enclosed courtyard is perfect to keep pets safe while you relax inside. Guest access You will have exclusive use of the cottage as our two further bedrooms will be closed during your stay. Check out our other listing if you would like to travel with friends and family (6 guests max) The stairs are steep and winding as is commonplace in old cottages. They have grip tread on each step. There are two steps up to the bedroom from the landing, and several steps up to the front door and a single step from hall to sitting room - all part of the charm of a hillside location, but not ideal for those with mobility issues. Other things to note ENTRY is provided by keysafe - code provided on booking. ACCESSIBILITY: There are low beams in the cottage, and three steps up to the bedroom and a step up to the sitting room. The cottage is accessed up a path with approximately 10 steps. There are three stone steps up to the cottage. There is a step between hall and sitting room. The staircase is steep and winding, as is commonplace in period cottages. Please consider carefully if Peppermint Cottage will meet your mobility needs as we wish you to be comfortable and safe. PETS: We welcome well-behaved dogs, but we ask that you keep the installed canine concertina stair-gate closed so they do not access upstairs where there is new carpet and fine bedding. We provide a dog bed (suitable for up to spaniel size), a dog tent (same size) and a good quality ceramic water bowl and a metal food bowl. We also provide two small dog blankets for use on the furniture, but do bring your own if your dog/s is larger. Please ensure you clean up after your dog as this is not included in the cleaning fee. Thank you so much for your kind consideration. PARKING: We have a named parking space for one car (Dacia Duster size). If your car is larger, or you are bringing two cars or a larger car than this, there is quite often additional parking on the grass verge opposite the Peppermint Cottage parking spot at the rear of the cottage. Alternatively, it is an easy six-minute stroll to the town's large public car park where parking is approx £3.50 a day. NB. Most cottages in the town do not have a parking space and use the town car park. COFFEE: We have a cafetiere filter coffee maker in the cottage for you to use.
