Welcome to Island Peace, our beautiful island getaway for family vacations or small retreats. We’re located in a quiet neighborhood with ample yardspace for playing and watching the deer roam. Located a couple-minute walk to a semi-private sandy beach, you can swim in the crystal clear, shallow water of the St. Clair River’s South Channel while watching freighters pass by. Enjoy fishing or watching sunsets from our North Channel dock or one of the several DNR access points throughout the island. The space An accessible ramp leads onto the large and sunny front deck and into the open layout ranch home that can comfortably accommodate up to 10 people. In the master suite, you’ll find a plush king bed and adjoining bathroom with enormous soaking tub and shower. At the other end of the house, you’ll enjoy the serene guest room with a full bed and nearby full bathroom with a tub/shower combo. Both of these rooms have a desk workspace, and there is free Wifi. Six more will find rest in the bunk room with two sets of triple bunks. A twin size flip mattress, full size air mattress, and baby pack-and-play are also available to provide you with optimum sleeping arrangements. A bonus room upstairs offers more relaxation space for everyone. (Note: 6’ ceiling height upstairs) Wake up to complimentary coffee and tea, cream and sugar. Hot showers for everyone with the tankless water heater, plus complimentary shampoo, conditioner, and soap. The kitchen is equipped to make meal prep a breeze with the full size refrigerator, freezer, oven, microwave, air fryer/toaster oven, and dishwasher. Or you can cook on the propane grill or firepit in the backyard. You’ll find basic oil and spices, small appliances, cooking and baking pans/dishes/utensils, filtered water. etc – just bring your favorite food. For your beach trips, we’ve got you covered with a beach wagon and chairs, large beach towels, and an umbrella. Pack the rolling cooler with your drinks and snacks. For the little ones, there are life jackets, beach toys, and a baby beach tent as well as a stroller all available for you to use. At Island Peace, you’ll also find a selection of board games, yard games, books, bikes, and Roku TV streaming options, as well as a full-size washer and dryer (w/complimentary detergent). Open windows for that great water breeze, or turn on the central A/C. Guest access Guests have access to the entire home except for two locked utility closets on each floor. The island is accessible via auto ferry and private boat only. Champion’s Auto Ferry provides 24/7 ferry service to the island year-round, with the possible of exception during ice breaks in the winter and early spring months. The ferry fee is currently $15 cash (CASH ONLY) for a round-trip ticket. Our grass/gravel driveway can accommodate four to five vehicles. Guests may respectfully use the neighborhood beach at the south end of Orchid Blvd (one street east of Monroe), which is the one shown in the photos. Also available is a small neighborhood dock at the north end of Monroe Blvd. Other things to note There are two DNR access points for boat launches and 6 sites for fishing throughout the island. Bring a boat or rent from Middle Channel Marina. Families will enjoy the playground at Brown’s field right off the ferry; and a longer drive will take everyone to the turnaround where you may be able to see over Lake St. Clair to the Detroit skyline on clear days. Enjoy the short and scenic drive to the island’s “downtown”, affectionately named Sans Souci (French for “without worry”) and find a charming selection of small shops and restaurants including the Island Grind Coffee Shop, Waterfront Shoppe (gift shop), Jane’s Sans Souci Market (groceries, takeout, ice cream), and the new Sans Souci Bar. Here in Sans Souci, you can also visit the Harsens Island Historical Museum and the Harsens Island Readers Cove. Venture out farther and you’ll find Brown’s Bar, a boat-up restaurant/bar, and the Schoolhouse Grill, a quality restaurant experience within the walls of the former island schoolhouse. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, a flyer--available at local Sans Souci shops--details the current events on Harsens Island. Be sure to call ahead for hours at any of your must do attractions. Lake St. Clair is a freshwater lake at the mouth of the St. Clair River, believed to be the largest freshwater delta in North America and known worldwide for its ecological diversity, making it one of the best spots for fishing, ice fishing, and duck hunting. Its clear water offers ideal swimming, boating, jet skiing, paddleboarding, and diving. And the international shipping route along the South Channel of the St. Clair River provides phenomenal views of freighters passing by.
