Description

(Fire · Earth · Sky) Falcon Hold is a sheltered, elevated couples stay shaped by warmth, grounding, and height. Built in earth with a living grass roof, the space feels solid and protective, with fire at its centre and open sky above. Sunrise reaches across the sea and ranges each morning; evenings settle into firelight, bath water, and starlight through the bedroom and bathroom skylights. Fireplace · Earth-built · Skylights · Bath · Horizon views · StarLight. The space Whare Aroha is a private retreat estate set high in the Kahurangi Ranges, overlooking Golden Bay. The property is defined by elevation, quiet, and open outlooks, with each accommodation positioned to engage differently with light, shelter, and landscape. Rather than repeating the same experience, each stay on the estate is shaped around a distinct elemental character — from open, light-led spaces focused on horizon and sky, to sheltered, earth-built rooms centred around fire and warmth. This allows guests to choose the atmosphere that best suits their stay, and to return for a different experience next time. Across the property, guests experience sunrise and starlight, dark skies, native birdsong, and a strong sense of separation from roads and neighbouring activity. Architecture and layout are intentionally restrained, allowing land, weather, and rhythm to define the experience. Whare Aroha is designed for guests who value calm, space, and clarity — with each stay offering a unique way to inhabit the same landscape. Guest access Whare Aroha is a private, elevated retreat set in a peaceful natural environment. Access is straightforward, but differs slightly from a standard roadside stay. Arrival point Please navigate to the off-street guest parking area using pins provided. 4WD vehicles Guests arriving in a suitable 4WD (low-range recommended) may drive up. On arrival, please text the provided number for room- specific guidance to your private park. We strongly recommend all first-time guests use the shuttle on arrival. This allows you to settle in calmly and decide later whether you’d like to rely on the concierge . If you have any questions before or during arrival, please get in touch — we’re here to make the experience smooth and relaxed from the outset. Other things to note Falcon Hold is an elevated, earth-built stay designed around warmth, shelter, and quiet, with open sky above. As with any rural hillside setting, weather, light, and wildlife are part of the experience and may vary from day to day. The interior is intentionally calm and grounded, with natural materials and fire-based heating as central features. To help maintain the space and earth-built finishes, we kindly ask that shoes are removed indoors. Mobile coverage can vary depending on carrier, and evenings are notably quiet. Due to the elevated location & 4wd driveway, 2wd guest access is managed via our concierge service to ensure safe and convenient delivery between rooms and safe, of street parking. This stay is best suited to guests who value firelight, dark skies, and a sheltered, natural environment, and who are comfortable in a peaceful, rural setting.
