Room in walking distance to Oxford city centre

Description

Light, airy attic room with private shower room, desk & fast, reliable Wi-Fi — perfect for visiting academics, work trips or anyone staying a week or more in Oxford. 14 mins walk to the University Science Area (<1 mile), 20–30 mins to JR Hospital/Brookes, colleges, Bodleian library, Sheldonian Theatre. Buses, corner shop & local gastropub nearby. At night you’ll have the top floor to yourself — rare in a shared house. Clothes hanging & storage in room, plus shared kitchen + washer/dryer. The space Tower View Cottage was built in 1890, and you'll have your own private ten metre square double room on the top floor of the house, with views through the trees (and when it was built, to the dreaming spires of Oxford which gave the house its original name). The room has a double bed, and we can also provide a floor mattress + bedding for a child under 12. You will have a private walk-in shower/toilet room for your exclusive use one step across from your room. The room also has a vintage work desk and fast wi-fi. At night, you have the entire floor to yourself: this is quite a unique feature that gives our guests a lot of privacy, even though you are in a shared house. You'll be a minute's walk from fast frequent buses to Oxford city centre, Brookes, JR Hospital, all about 20-30 minute scenic walk away. We are also a few minutes' walk to two excellent playgrounds, and there are miles of country walks on our doorstep, including past the local farm selling fresh eggs! We are happy for you to drop off luggage before check in or leave bags to collect the same day after check out (depending on availability). Please do ask. Do note that this is a cosy attic room - it's perfectly comfortable throughout the year for us, with a efficient floor fan in summer and very effective blinds, but like most UK properties, the room is not air-conditioned, and may not be right for you if you're used to very air-conditioned rooms in summer. We largely use unscented eco products for cleaning and laundry - the room may be suitable for guests looking for low VOC/ no fragrance accommodation. Please contact us for further details of our cleaning regime and what changes we can make before booking. We've lived in Oxford a long time and know the city well, so we're very happy to provide recommendations and tips about Oxford. Guest access Access to your room via main door and up two flights of stairs. You can also securely lock a push bike in our back garden if you're travelling through Oxford like a local! Please ask us when booking. Ground floor eat-in fully equipped kitchen and washing machine and dryer access available, as is access on request to garden dining area + outdoor drying line and/or a drying rack in your room. No access to rooms on first floor. During your stay One of us is usually working from home: please knock on our home office doors, message us on AirBnB, or call us on our mobile. Other things to note We have two shy but friendly rescue cats: they'll stay out of your way unless you really want to entice them, but this accommodation is not suitable for anyone allergic to or with a strong dislike of cats. Your room is on the top floor, up two flights of stairs: the second set of stairs is a bit steeper than normal (we're very happy to help you carry luggage up). This is an attic room in a Victorian house, so the height is restricted in the corners of the room where they meet the eaves. The shower room ceiling height may also not be the most comfortable if you're 6 feet or over ⚠️⚠️! The room has central gas heating and in summer, a low-noise portable freestanding fan - with these, it's perfectly comfortable for us throughout the year, but note that like most houses in the UK, there is no airconditioning. During the day, the room next door to yours is used as an office roughly 9 am - 5 pm. Quiet hours 9 pm - 7 am. Latest check-in time 11 pm. No pets, shoes indoors, guests of guests or eating/drinking in bed please. The room is 10 metre square, has a double bed and can accommodate two people (plus an under 12 child on a floor mattress) for short stays. For longer stays (more than a few days), it is most suitable for a single occupant.
