We rent our lovingly furnished mountain hut in the Maggiatal Valley, Canton of Ticino. Built in 1866, the Rustico was completely renovated in 2021 and is located on Mount Arnau, above the village of Giumaglio, at an altitude of 1000 m. The hut is only accessible on foot and requires a two-hour hike uphill. It offers everything for a cozy and relaxing stay. We look forward to your visit. Ofer & family Swiss registration number: License number NL-00010433 The space Living area and kitchen: The Arnau mountain hut has a living area with a sofa, a dining table and a small but well-equipped kitchen. For cooking there is a wood stove with oven as well as a gas stove. In the kitchen you will find coffee, sugar, tea, Ovaltine, spices, vinegar and oil. In the "Milchhüsli," a small separate building, there is a gas refrigerator as well as drinks and food for purchase, such as: rice, flour, pasta, risotto, tomato sauce, olives, tuna, cereals, aperitif, salty snacks, sweets, crispbread, rusks, homemade jam, honey, soft drinks, water and more. If available, lettuce, fruits and berries can be picked in the garden. Sleeping: Pillows and duvets with covers are provided. The use of a silk sleeping bag is mandatory, as the bed linen is not changed after each guest. There are two sleeping options: on the sofa bed (140 × 200 cm) in the living area or on two mattresses under the gable. The mountain hut may only be occupied by a maximum of 2 people. Toilet and bathroom The bathroom is located in the basement of the hut with toilet, shower and a boiler with wood heating (only in summer in operation). Soap, shampoo and toilet paper are provided for use. Heating: The cottage is heated with wood. Dry wood is available. Water: There is running water in the house, which can be heated by a wood boiler in the bathroom. Electricity/mobile network/Internet: Solar power with 12V is available, including USB sockets to charge mobile phones. However, you must bring your own charging cables. The mobile network is available, but the reception in the house is rather weak. Cleaning: The mountain hut must be left in order and clean by the guests. Activities: The garden and the seating area offer plenty of space to spread out. There are various community and outdoor games, a telescope and a guitar. Two sun loungers and a hammock are also available. From the Arnau mountain hut, day trips can also be made, for example to a mountain river. Guest access The Arnau mountain hut is only accessible on foot from the village of Giumaglio via a challenging mountain path. Route to Arnau: From the village of Giumaglio you can reach the mountain hut in about 2 hours via two hiking trails: the longer but less steep path via Berzona or the shorter but steeper path directly above the waterfall. By public transport to Giumaglio: Take the train to Locarno. At the end of the tracks, take bus 315 towards Cavergno. Get off in Giumaglio (press the stop button to Coglio, otherwise the bus will not stop). By car to Giumaglio: From Locarno, drive towards Vallemaggia to Giumaglio. Parking is available at the entrance to the village, directly and at the playground. Public parking In the village there are blue, unlimited parking spaces. For these spaces you need a parking permit, which can easily be paid on site. Prices of parking permits: Daily permit: CHF 5.00 Weekly permit: CHF 25.00 Monthly permit: CHF 50.00 The permit can be paid directly at the parking lot – simply via Twint or ParkingPay by scanning the QR code. Other things to note For safety reasons, it is not allowed to walk to the hut in the dark. Therefore, the latest check-in is regulated as follows: Summer: until 6:00 pm Spring & autumn: until 5 pm Please allow enough time to find the mountain hut, set up, make a fire and prepare warm water – all of which can take some time.
