The space Welcome to our home! We’re Ray and Ben, and we offer a stylish, peaceful and comfortable retreat in Coxhoe, County Durham, just a short drive or bus journey from historic Durham city. Our modern, pet-free, five-bedroom detached home is located within a landscaped residential development, only minutes from the A1(M) and Durham Services at Bowburn. Guests enjoy a private, climate-controlled double bedroom, a dedicated private bathroom, free on-site parking and chargeable EV charging. You are also welcome to use the shared kitchen, dining room, snug lounge and utility facilities throughout your stay. The spacious, fully equipped kitchen includes an oven, hob, fridge-freezer, air fryer, microwave, coffee machine and everything needed to prepare meals, cook or even bake. Guests may also use the washing machine and tumble dryer, making our home especially convenient for longer stays. Please help yourself to complimentary tea, regular and decaffeinated coffee, hot chocolate, sugar, cow’s milk, cereals and chilled water from the American-style fridge-freezer. The comfortable snug lounge features a large-screen television with Sky, providing a welcoming place to relax after a busy day. For guests travelling for work, the bedroom includes a dedicated desk and access to ultrafast fibre broadband, typically exceeding 900 Mbps, making video calls, remote working and 4K streaming effortless. Your private double bedroom has individually controlled air conditioning, central heating, blackout curtains, a super-comfortable iGel mattress and a spacious walk-in wardrobe with plenty of room for clothes, luggage and personal belongings. Your dedicated private bathroom is immediately across the hallway and is used exclusively by you. It includes a modern rain shower and is so close to the bedroom that it feels almost en suite. Whether you are staying for one night, several weeks or a few months, we hope you will feel at home from the moment you arrive. We have welcomed short- and long-term students, doctors and healthcare professionals, musicians performing at local theatres, contractors, business travellers and visitors exploring Durham and the wider North East. Durham city centre is approximately 10–15 minutes away by car or around 15–20 minutes by bus. Attractions include the magnificent Durham Cathedral, Durham Castle, Durham University and the University Hospital of North Durham. Other popular destinations within easy reach include Beamish, The Living Museum of the North, the spectacular High Force waterfall, Kynren’s outdoor historical performances and the beautiful countryside of County Durham. Nature lovers can enjoy walks and cycle routes close to the house. A scenic cycle path begins approximately 100 metres away and winds through woodland, open fields and rolling countryside. Coxhoe Quarry Wood, a designated Local Nature Reserve, is also beside the development and offers woodland, grassland and wildlife, making it ideal for walking, running or cycling. Guests travelling with bicycles, large suitcases or bulky equipment are welcome to use secure storage space in our garage. A bus stop is just a few minutes’ walk from the development, with connections towards Durham, Sedgefield, Bishop Auckland, Darlington and surrounding areas. Durham railway station provides direct services to destinations including London, Edinburgh, York, Manchester and Birmingham. Early check-in and late checkout may be available for a small additional charge, subject to other bookings. Please ask and we will always do our best to accommodate your plans. This is a shared home, and both owners live and work at the property. Your bedroom and bathroom are entirely private and reserved exclusively for your use. Communal areas, including the kitchen, dining room and snug, are shared with Ray and Ben. During your stay We usually like to welcome guests in person and help them settle in. During your stay, we are always happy to recommend local attractions, restaurants, scenic walks and the best ways to get around. You will also find information in your room about places to visit, along with some of our own favourite spots in Durham and the wider area. We are a quiet, professional couple and generally respect our guests’ privacy. One of us is often working from home during the day, so help is usually nearby if needed. At other times, we are only a phone call or message away. Subject to availability and advance notice, we may also be able to offer collection from or drop-off at Durham railway or bus station for a small contribution towards costs. Please ask before your stay so we can confirm whether this is possible. Other things to note Coxhoe is a small friendly village with local shops, pubs, takeaways and restaurant. A car or bicycle offers the greatest flexibility for exploring Durham and the surrounding countryside, although regular buses connect the village with Durham, Darlington, Bishop Auckland and other nearby destinations. Durham is renowned for its history, beautiful countryside and UNESCO-listed Cathedral and Castle. Coxhoe provides a peaceful base from which to explore the city while remaining conveniently close to the A1(M). Motorcyclists and cyclists are very welcome. Secure garage storage may be available for motorcycles, bicycles or bulky equipment by prior arrangement. A 7 kW EV charger is available for an additional charge, calculated according to the electricity consumed. Charging normally takes place overnight, so please let us know in advance if you would like to use it. We keep only tropical fish. Due to a homeowner’s severe allergy to animal fur and dander, pets and animals cannot be accommodated. A household safe is available, and we may be able to store small valuables or important documents during your stay. Any items left for safekeeping remain entirely at the guest’s own risk.
