The space This spacious and well-lit four-room apartment (97 square metres) serves as an exquisite gallery and is situated in the heart of Kaunas, in the Naujamiestis district. The house was designed by the renowned Lithuanian architect, Dr. S. Kudokas, who expertly blended form, function, and ornamentation. Built in 1933, Dr. Kudokas’s house features art deco elements that grace both the interior and exterior of the building. This apartment stands as an exemplary representation of Kaunas’ modernist architectural style and has earned the prestigious UNESCO Heritage Label due to its harmonious fusion of modernist utility and art deco aesthetics. This apartment-gallery is unique in its approach, as it marries interwar modernism with the contemporary cultural vibrancy of the city. Not only will you discover authentic interwar details within the house, such as beautifully preserved wooden herringbone parquet flooring, period radiators, and art deco embellishments on two-part doors, but you’ll also encounter a remarkable collection of artworks by Lithuanian artists, all available for purchase. It comes equipped with a modern kitchen complete with all necessary appliances (microwave, cooktop, dishwasher, fridge, and washing machine), as well as a spacious cooking and dining area. The generous living room features a comfortable sofa, a TV, and a selection of paintings by Lithuanian artists, along with books on art and culture. The apartment comprises two bedrooms with fitted wardrobes, along with two bathrooms – one with a bath and toilet, and the other with just a toilet. The apartment’s unique modernist style is accentuated by carefully chosen design solutions, and it offers ample space for the displayed artworks. Moreover, the apartment boasts two separate and spacious balconies adorned with authentic art deco handrails. Please note that this apartment strictly prohibits parties and smoking indoors. Guest access The apartment-gallery is located right in the heart of Kaunas, just a minute’s walk from Laisvės alėja, with the domed spire of the Church of St. Michael the Archangel (Soboras) visible through the apartment’s exceptionally large windows. Some of Kaunas’ most famous museums, such as the M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art and the Kaunas Picture Gallery, are within a convenient 10-minute walk. The apartment is situated on the fourth floor (please note that in Lithuania, ground floor is called the first floor) of a building. The building’s staircase has not been renovated, and there is no elevator. Free parking is available in the courtyard, accessible via barrier gates.
