Off-Grid Cosy Cabin on a Working Farm
Off-Grid Cosy Cabin on a Working Farm
Description
Unwind in our cosy, off-grid, Cabin on a working family farm in the midst of the Northamptonshire countryside. Enjoy glorious sunsets, beautiful views, wildlife spotting and livestock watching. Light the wood burner, sit back, and relax! Despite being off-grid (all the electricity is supplied by solar) the Cabin has all the comforts you’d expect from a cosy holiday home. It sleeps four adults and has a big garden for up to two dogs to enjoy! The space Chill out on the super-comfortable sofa with the dog and watch the flames in the wood burner. Cook up a feast in our fully equipped kitchen with range cooker or walk across the beautiful countryside to a local pub. Spot wildlife or watch the antics of the livestock in the adjacent fields. Sit outside and watch the glorious sunsets. Just "come and be" at Elliotts' Rectory Farm! We want to be as eco-friendly as we can be, so all the electricity in the Cabin is supplied by solar panels. The clever septic system utilises bacteria to turn waste into clean water and the heating runs on LPG (one day to be replaced with a wind turbine!). The guest bedroom has a king-sized bed that can be split into two single beds if needed. The open-plan sitting room/study/diner has an additional sofa that pulls out into a very comfortable king-sized bed. The utility room has a washing machine and everything you need to deal with a muddy dog! Dog towels, water bowl and poo bags are provided. An off-grid kitchen means boiling the kettle on the hob, making toast under the grill and washing-up (whilst looking at the cows or sheep out of the window!) rather than using electricity for these things. The cooker has seven gas hobs and two ovens, for those of you who enjoy such things! The cabin is accessed front and back via steps with a handrail. The paths from the spacious parking area are all on one level, with motion-sensor lighting illuminating at night. The Cabin is then all on one level, apart from a 4 cm step up into the shower tray. The large garden is fully fenced, but we never guarantee anything is dog proof, though our terrier hasn’t escaped from it yet! The garden has a picnic bench, garden table and chairs. There is a fire pit for you to enjoy and blankets in the utility room for you to snuggle up in! There is a gate from the garden into the fully enclosed glamping field (that you can walk in, and access the public footpaths through, if no-one is staying in it). Otherwise, you can walk between the farm buildings (watch out for tractors!). There is a map in the cabin. After the dairy cows were sold in 2019 the farm was entered into an environmental scheme and we have seen a huge increase in biodiversity since then. Half the farm is planted with wild bird seed and nectar flowers and the other half is for grazing the sheep and cattle of the farmer next door. You are certain to see red kites and buzzards and may spot little owls, hares, foxes and badgers during your stay. We support local where we can. Some of the pottery in the cabin is made by Chapelside Ceramics, who run pottery workshops nearby. Most of the pictures are by local artists and photographers. Friars Farm supplies our delicious condiments and we use locally made Fred & Betty soaps. Guest access You have the run of the whole cabin apart from one locked bedroom. There is a gate from the cabin garden into the glamping field, which you also have the run of if there are no guests in the shepherd hut. (Be aware that the two patches of long grass are covering the foundations for two more huts). If there are guests using the shepherd hut please walk through the farm buildings to access the public footpaths, with dogs on a lead. Other things to note Please let us know if you want the main bedroom set up as two single beds rather than one kingsize and also if you want the sofa bed making up. The cabin is totally off-grid, with solar powered electric and propane powered central heating and hot water. Dogs are super welcome but please wipe their feet when they come into the cabin and don’t allow them in the bedroom. Please do not leave them alone in the cabin. Whilst we welcome dogs we can't accept cats. There is a smart TV in the living room, but being in the middle of a field means we have no TV aerial! If you want to watch TV it will be via streaming services and apps. If you have a reactive dog (like us) let us know and we can make any guests in the glamping field, who may have dogs with them, aware.
