Beautiful 15th century two ensuite bedroomed (can be king size or twins) character cottage.. Right on the river between Jacobstowe and Exbourne, West Devon. Beamed sitting room with woodburner ( some logs provided) large kitchen (can seat up to ten, usefull if both if our cottages are let together), private enclosed large garden overlooking fields, use of our orchard and endless walks along the river from the cottages. EV CHARGER AVAILABLE ONSITE AT 50P PER KWH, PLEASE BOOK YOUR SLOT WITH US The space The Millers cottage contains 2 ensuite bedrooms, one characterful room with a kingsize bed which can be split into two single beds if needed and an attached bathroom with an extra large bath and drench head shower over, there is room for a cot if needed in this room. The family room is a later addition to the house and is a large airy room with views of the garden at the back and fields beyond. It has a super kingsize bed which also can be split to provide two large single beds, there is also a day bed providing a further single bed and there is room for another childs bed or cot. The ensuite has a large shower with drench head shower head. Both rooms have televisions and are provided with Egyptian cotton sheets, throws and Egyptian cotton towels. The sitting room has a woodburner, also a large smart tv and seating for 4/6 people. There is also a small room with access to the beautiful fully enclosed garden and patio. This room is ideal to sit and watch the birds on the bird feeder or just enjoy the beauty of the garden and fields beyond or to see rhe sunsets at night.. The kitchen contains cooker, fridge, dishwasher, oil fired boiler, masses of cupboards for your provisions, cupboards with crockery and cooking dishes, The dresser contains many games, toys and puzzles for your use. There is also a rotary clothes line, pegs and cushions for the outside furniture and parasol in the cupboard. The utility room contains a downstairs toilet, washing machine, freezer and microwave. High chairs, iron and ironing board are also stored here. The pretty garden which looks across fields and the river is fully enclosed, it has a shallow water feature so children and dogs do need supervision in the garden . There are table and chairs, sun loungers, parasol, and bbq provided. we also have a bird feeding station where you will see a massive array of wild birds You can follow the tamac track ( the old road) down to the river with beautiful scenery and walks all along the river, through fields and woods beyond The river is a haven for many creatures, you may see king fishers, herons, grey wagtails, dippers, tree creepers, woodpeckers, trout and salmon in the water and maybe even an otter. At night time you can often see an array of different species of bats taking insects off the top of the water. To the right of the tarmac track is our orchard which has a large picnic table with seats for 6 people and fire pit for guests use, the orchard is great for family games (many provided) rounders, croquet and garden jenga. Our wood store is in the orchard where you can purchase extra wood for the fires ( we provide some) also charcoal and firelighters. The orchard has walkways down to the water where you can paddle, skim stones, build dams, swim ( at your own risk, supervision advised) or just enjoy the beauty of the river. Fly fishing is permitted along our stretch of river which runs from under the road bridge to our shepherds hut. We live in the mill itself and are happy for you to go down to the water to fish by our house as this is a good fishing place. ( please ask us before you go down though) We have two cottages The Old Mill and The Millers Cottage. If available, both cottages can be rented together. They are divided by large fire doors which can be opened up to give a four ensuite bedroomed cottage sleeping 8 plus, listed as The Old Mill House. We also have The Old Mill Annexe sleeping 4 and our cute shephsrds hut sleeps 2. All properties together can sleep 15 plus for larger family gatherings. Guest access The cottage has a private enclosed garden which is solely for the use of The Millers cottage guests. The orchard is a communal area that can be used by both our cottages and our shepherds hut guests. The walkways and access to the river along our boundary is also for use only of our guests and us. The walks along the river are public footpaths, although are not used extensively by people other than our guests and us. Other things to note Not only are there lots of things to do here at The Old Mill, fabulous river walks, fishing, river swimming, paddling and playing in the water.( children should of course be superivised) we provide lots of games for the orchard too, garden jenga, rounders, croquet etc. Further afield there are lots of attractions beautiful gardens to visit, The garden house, Stone lane, R.H.S Rosemoor, Clovelly court, Marwood Hill to name a few. The National Trust has lots of local properties too, Finch fiundry, Castle Drogo, Lydford gorge, and many more in south Devon and Cornwall. For the family there is of course Tamar valley zip wires, tree walking and canoeing, pony treking on Dartmoor, Chagford outdoor heated pool, and only an hour away, The Eden project and Helligan gardens. There are also a selecion of restaurants and cafes in Okehampton and there are lots of cosy dog friendly pubs in the local villages, many on Dartmoor with incredible scenery and most with lovely garden to enjoy the sun in. We ran the Millers cottage as a bed and breakfast while we were renovating the mill, however now that we have moved into the mill the cottage is now a self cattering cottage independent of our home.
