The Loon Lodge
The Loon Lodge
Description
Nestled in the Marl Bay on Douglas Lake, the Loon Lodge is located near one of four Loon nests monitored by the U of M BioStation. 17 miles of undeveloped shoreline maintained by U of M on the 3,700 acre lake helps to create a peaceful place for wildlife and human visitors to rest. Spend the day exploring the lake by kayak, canoe, or paddle board, and enjoy a good book by the lake. By night, catch the Northern Lights or the Milky Way Galaxy from the dock while a fire crackles on the shore. The space The Loon Lodge is a cozy 1940’s whole log cabin that has been updated & renovated while honoring it’s historical character. There are two bedrooms (pony walls) each featuring a queen bed. There is also a sleeping loft with full and twin beds, while a futon is available in the living room for extra sleeping. A full kitchen, bathroom and living room finish the space, plus an enclosed porch on the lakeside for sipping your morning coffee. The cabin is best for a couple or single family with kids. Guest access The entire space is available for guest use. Other things to note Need a break from the lake? This cozy lakefront cabin is located just a short drive from Mackinaw City, Cheboygan, and Petosky. Enjoy Mackinaw Bridge views, star gaze at the Headlands International Dark Sky Park, or travel back in time at Colonial Michilimackinac. Mackinaw City offers countless other family activities like mini-golf, para-sailing, shopping, fishing charters, or even a quick ferry-boat ride over to Mackinac Island. Of course, don't forget to get your Mackinac Island Fudge! Personally, we'd recommend a quick dinner trip to Scalawag's in Mackinaw City for the Whitefish Basket, followed by a stop at the Fort Fudge Shop for dessert! Relax lakeside at the cabin, or use it as your gateway to the North - your family will make plenty of cherished memories while staying at Douglas Lake
