Description
Luxury beach house in nature on the South Coast of NSW. This is a real South Coast experience - absolute beachfront, superb ocean views, surrounded by bush, national park nearby - in a tasteful, comfortable holiday home equipped to relax & unwind. (Tap 'show more' to learn more.) Our beach accommodation is near Narooma & Moruya in the hidden hamlet of Congo. It's a romantic getaway in nature for couples or a recharging retreat for families. (See our reviews!) We're a pet/dog-friendly beach house The space Here are a few things that will make your stay at our holiday home special ... ABSOLUTE BEACHFRONT Our place overlooks the ocean and is right on the beach - there's only bush between you and the sand. (No houses or roads.) OCEAN & BUSH VIEWS The house has floor-to-ceiling glass along much of its east side. There are beautiful views of nature from the lounge, kitchen and main bedroom - to the surrounding native bush, beach and ocean below. SURROUNDED BY NATURE Congo is bounded by National Park north and south, bush west and the ocean east. Congo itself has lots of trees. Our place is also surrounded by bush reserves on three sides and a vacant block at the back, not to mention the aspect to the ocean. SECLUDED BEACHES It's pretty laid-back here and different to staying in most coastal towns in NSW - which can be suburban and busy. Congo is quiet and surrounding beaches quite secluded. (If you want peace, this is the place!) DOG-FRIENDLY You can bring your furry friend - we're a dog-friendly luxury beach house! You can also walk your dog on the beach in front (Congo Beach) - it's 24-hour off-leash all year. Here's more about the nature in your getaway here ... OCEAN LIFE There's something humbling about looking out on the big expanse of the ocean in front of the house. It's great to just sit and watch it at different times of the day. But keep an eye out for the little things too - you just might spot dolphins beyond the breakers. Or the splash of a whale further out . Whales swim north past here in June/July, then back south (closer to shore with their calves) in September/October/November. We have binoculars ready! WILDLIFE If you come for long enough, you'll likely see the kangaroos and wallabies that visit our yard (usually early morning and evening.) If you're lucky, you may see an echidna or goanna. BIRDLIFE There's a whole host of interesting birds around. Our favourites are the sea eagles that occasionally soar over our house and the black cockatoos that come squawking past. Maybe you'll spot them - and a few of these special ones while you're here - black swans, egrets, oystercatchers, cormorants, king parrots, and hawks. We're also fond of our regular wattlebirds, lorikeets, kookaburras, and magpie family. SUNRISES, SUNSETS & STARS The sun rising up over the ocean is pretty special most days - often golden. (Worth peeking out and watching from bed!) At the end of the day, there can be lovely purple and pink light across the big sky in front. (We recommend sitting out in the yard with a glass of wine or a cup of tea to soak it in.) Once it gets dark, the stars at night are often a delight. (Worth going outside and simply looking up before you go to bed.) If you're staying when a full moon is due, you can see it rise big and bright over the ocean horizon. (Check it out from the balcony.) Here are some interesting aspects about the house itself ... OPEN LIVING The lounge has big sliding doors that can be pulled right back - so the main part of the house can be open to the balcony and the view to the beach. The balcony has an outdoor dining table and a BBQ for entertaining and meals outside. The living area is spacious - open plan - encompassing the lounge, fireplace, dining and kitchen. AWESOME FIREPLACE Our fireplace is a beauty. It makes that large open living area cosy and warm on colder days. We provide the firewood. BATH WITH A VIEW The main bedroom has its own bath. And even better it has a beautiful view. If you turn the lights off at night you can see stars and catch the distant flash of the lighthouse on Montague Island (Barunguba) to our south. GARDEN OVERLOOKING THE SEA Our front yard overlooks the beach and the ocean. We have tables in sunny spots in the garden - so you can have a contemplative cup of tea out there any time of day, lunch together outside in the mid day sunshine, or a glass of wine in the garden while listening to the waves in the fading evening light. LITTLE TOUCHES OF LUXURY We use top-quality sheets and towels to help give you a 5-star hotel-type experience. WELL-EQUIPPED KITCHEN The kitchen is well-equipped for cooking and entertaining - as Lisa is a bit of a foodie. It includes Lisa's well-stocked spice drawer, staples, and appliances. GREAT COFFEE If you love coffee, you'll appreciate our top-notch grinder, machine and various ways of making a brew. (Phil's specialty.) There's also some interesting and classic holiday things to do in the house ... MOVIES There's a separate media room with a big screen and sofa for watching movies. We have a great collection of the best films of the last few decades on DVD - for adults and children. The Smart TV also has Netflix, ABC iView and free-to-air channels. (The media room can be a good little nook for the kids.) BOOKS & GAMES You can bring your own books to read but we have plenty here for you too. We also have Scrabble, Monopoly, chess, checkers, backgammon, and cards. A good diversion from screens - for kids and adults / big kids! ART MATERIALS Lisa was an art teacher for a long time and can provide you with art materials if you want to do some drawing or painting. MUSIC (VINYL RECORDS!) Best of all, we've got a great collection of music - from the 60's, 70's, 80s and 90's - on vinyl and CD. Plus the players to play them. (We're a bit old school.) And if you want to make the most of the local area, here are some special things to do ... WALK THE BEACH AND NATIONAL PARK Congo Beach is 5 minutes walk north. It's quiet - a lot of the time you're likely to get it to yourself. The National Park (and Bingie Dreaming Track) is 5 minutes walk south. It's also quiet, beautiful and thankfully not yet discovered. The beach and National Park are great for short or long walks - straight out the door of our place. HANG OUT AT THE BEACH A wonderful thing to do on a sunny day is to head to the beach and stay down there for a decent stint. Guaranteed to relax you! We have a portable cabana tent and beach chairs you can take. SURF If you're an experienced surfer, there's a good shortboard wave right in front and a longboard wave on the north side of the Point. If you’re learning, there’s a gentle little break for beginners nearby at Pedro’s Beach. EAT OUT Whilst we're surrounded by nature, it's not far to some special places to eat out. You can have Thai food, fish & chips, or a coffee right on the lake at Tuross, a 15-minute drive south of us. Half an hour south is Narooma where you can treat yourself to a meal on Wagonga Inlet at the top-notch 'Quarterdeck' or 'Oyster Farmer's Daughter'. MORE IN OUR GUIDE We provide a guide to the area once you've booked. It has local insider tips on the best places to eat, best coffee, secret spots, and walks to do. (For a taste of the guide we provide, check out the bottom of our personal profile - there should be a link to our public Airbnb 'Guide to Congo and the Eurobodalla'.) All in all, we think our place might just be the best luxury beachfront holiday house in nature on the South Coast of NSW! It's certainly a relaxing and rejuvenating place to get away from the everyday and 'be' by the beach. (You'll get a sense of the location, the National Park, beach and Congo hamlet via the aerial shots in the photos on the house profile. They're toward the end of the photo series. There's also more info about the area in the Neighbourhood Highlights section.) ----- Guest access Ours is private luxury beach accommodation - you'll have your own exclusive use of the whole house and large garden that overlooks the beach. ----- Other things to note Some notes for your group ... COUPLES Our beach house is a wonderful, private, romantic getaway in nature for couples - a place to take that special someone for a treat. (We'd love to know if it's a special occasion!) FAMILIES Our holiday home is also a great getaway in nature for families. There are opportunities to see native animals, birds and sea life, plus the house has games, books and movies for all ages. If you have kids, there are safety things you need to be aware of and take responsibility for. They include managing kids in the front yard and at the beach - see notes on those areas below. You'll also need to manage kids around our fireplace as it can get hot. If you go to book, please let us know how old your kids are. This helps us prepare for your stay. We love kids! Please note however the house is more suitable for older kids (over 7 years of age.) DOGS We are dog owners & lovers and welcome guests with dogs (1 or 2.) The house has the yard here your dog can use - though you need to be aware it's not 100% enclosed. There's fences on 3 sides. The ocean side slopes away and has thick bush. You can take your dog on our local beach. It's 24-hour off-leash all year round. It's just the southern and northern ends that are technically off-limits - as they're attached to the National Park. (You can't take your dog into the National Parks itself.) We have a few pooch provisos: they need to be supervised so they won't go after wildlife and not have a go at other local dogs. Please clean up after them. Please also keep your dog off the furniture & beds. (If you'll have trouble with that, please bring and use blankets to cover furniture.) Thanks! If you do book, please let us know a bit about your dog e.g. what breed and how old? BEACH ACCESS & SAFETY There's a public access track to Congo Beach just to our north, 5 minutes walk away. Once you're there you can walk north another 5 or so minutes to the next beach - Pedro's. So you know - there are no flags on beaches here (because it's a small, quiet place.) If you want to swim, Pedro's is a safer beach - especially if you have kids or you're not experienced with ocean swimming or the surf is big. (Pedro's feels like Noosa Beach - without the people or the buildings.) THE FRONT YARD Our front yard overlooking the ocean is a great place to sit out and eat or have a contemplative cup of tea. There's also room for your kids or dog to run around. Please be aware it has fences on 3 sides and open bush on the eastern (ocean) side. Occasionally we're visited by local wildlife - including kangaroos and wallabies (though these are usually early morning or evenings.) If you have kids or dogs that might venture off or get overly curious about bush creatures you'll need to keep them supervised in the yard. (If you come across local wildlife, please give them plenty of space and just observe.) Also important to know about the house ... WATER Because we're away from town, the house uses a rainwater tank for its water. So you do need to use water carefully / sparingly. Please only wash clothes if you're here for a long stint. Please keep showers short. (We do however encourage you to try out our bath with a view!) MOBILE SIGNAL & WIFI The phone signal here is largely reliable (better if you're using Telstra) and the wifi is usually good too. So you should be able to work from here if you need - though Congo was really made for digital detoxing! WORKSPACES There are desks in the second and third bedrooms. The 3rd bedroom also has a library in it (with books and records.) HEATING & COOLING The main heating in the house is the fireplace. We can offer electric portable heaters for bedrooms if it's cold and you need them. (Let us know.) If it's a hot day you can open the balcony doors wide open to catch the sea breezes. We can offer portable fans for bedrooms if it's hot and you need them. (Let us know.) Sorry, we don't have aircon - this is an authentic South Coast stay! SOLAR & SUSTAINABILITY We have a sustainability orientation. We've just installed an awesome solar system. It works amazingly well during the day and we encourage you to do things like put the dishwasher on when the sun is up. Plus remember to turn things off at night. We have big plans to make our house sustainable in the future. More to come. ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING Let us know if you're driving an EV here. We may be able to let you charge it up using our free energy from the sun. Plug in when the sun is blazing during the day. We can provide an extension cord. PROPERTY LAYOUT & PRIVACY The House is one of two buildings on our large (5000 square metre) property. Where you'll stay is the main residence at the front facing the beach, with the best view. It's likely we'll be working in the other building out the back while you're here. However, your space is completely separate and very private. It's unlikely you'll see or hear us. And finally ... SUPPLIES There are no shops in Congo. If you need supplies the laid-back rural town of Moruya is 15 minutes drive to our north. It has a Woolworths and a specialty supermarket called Southlands. There's also a sweet local farmers' market by the river on Tuesday afternoons (3-5pm) and a regular market on Saturday mornings. YOU CAN FLY FROM SYDNEY It's only about an hour to fly from Sydney. There are a few Rex flights a day that go to Moruya. The plane flight is scenic and if you book in advance the price can be reasonable. Moruya Airport is only 20 minutes drive from us. Phil could come and pick you up in his Kombi if your party is 2 or 3 people - no charge! You might need to pick up food in Moruya on the way through. After that you don't really need a car in Congo (if you're happy to just hang here and do local walks.) Thanks for reading this far - hope this isn't information overload! We're obviously enthused about our place. We think you will be too when you see it! On that note, check out what our past guests have said about their stay in the Reviews. And if you have any questions for us, you're welcome to get in touch. Cheers, Phil & Lisa ps. For availability see the calendar. Dates crossed out show when is already taken.
