Description

Lower Cottage, near Newcastle Emlyn, offers a breathtaking view over Hiraeth Valley as it joins the Teifi River. One of two historic stone cottages at Clyn Glas ('Green Meadow'), it's a 5-min drive from Newcastle Emlyn's shops, cafes, and pubs. Explore scenic walks, and sandy beaches, ideal for swimming and surfing just 20 mins away. Spot dolphins and seals along the coast, especially at Cwm Tydu Cove. The space Lower Cottage near Newcastle Emlyn occupies a spectacular position overlooking the valley where the Hiraeth stream runs on its journey to join the river Teifi. It is one of two stone cottages at Clyn Glas, ‘Green Meadow’, which used to be connected to the local woollen industry. Cwmhiraeth is a 5 minute drive from Newcastle Emlyn, which offers a variety of shops, supermarkets, cafes and pubs. The River Teifi which rises above Tregaron, in the Cambrian Mountains, flows through Newcastle Emlyn on its way to the sea at Cardigan (Aberteifi) a distance of over 70 miles. The surrounding area is stunning and walks can be taken from the cottages. The sandy beaches of Cardigan Bay are only 20 minutes away offering safe bathing and surfing. Some beaches are also well suited to sea fishing. Dolphins and seals can be found off the coast and seal pups can often be seen at Cwm Tydu Cove and along the coast in the autumn. The Pembrokeshire Coastal path is also nearby and is very popular with walkers, as is the beautiful town of Newport, with its golf course and yachting club. KEY FACTS Bed linen and towels provided Please bring your own beach towels Cot available. Please bring your own bedding Oil central heating Heating and electricity included Logs provided for wood-burning stove Free WiFi Up to 2 well-behaved dogs welcome Other things to note Pre arrival This is not really a suitable site for staying for those who are dependant on Public Transport. Our nearest train stations are at Aberystwyth and Carmarthen, from whence visitors have to rely either on the bus service or on taxis. Our village of Drefach Felindre has a bus link to Newcastle Emlyn and Cardigan and with Carmarthen, but the nearest bus stop is at least three quarters of a mile away.  We are more than happy to help visitors when they arrive and when they leave and will sometimes be able to help with occasional shopping etc. However, we are not always available and guests booking should not rely on our assistance for the whole duration of their stay. Arrival and car parking Bwthyn Isaf (Lower Cottage) is approached from a large car park, which allows for both manoeuvring of vehicles and for easy ingress to and egress from vehicles. Reserved parking place, but extra space can be made available as necessary. The cottage has two entrances The front entrance door opens onto the drive between the main house and the cottage block This drive is quite steep and the raised doorways are unsuitable for those depending on wheelchair access The back doors open to gates from the car park, but involve steps which are much wider and there is a strong rail on either side to assist those who have some difficulty with mobility There is then a level path leading to the patio and the stepped back door, which opens into the lounge The cottage has exterior lights which are at the control of the guests, so that they can see their way from the car park if they need to return after dark Inside We supply a cordless kettle so that they can be handled more easily. The cottage has a standard cooker and is also supplied with microwave ovens and other equipment easily accessed on the work surfaces. The cottage has washing machines, dishwashers and refrigerators (with ice-box compartment), fitted underneath the kitchen work surfaces Televisions and video recorders that, for ease, are operated by remote controls We do not offer a blanket welcome to dogs, but will accept them when their owners agree to abide by the requirements of our own "Dog Policy". We require this to be done at the time of booking. There would therefore be no objection to Service Dogs as long as their owners were prepared to abide by this same agreement. We welcome well-behaved dogs and have made many canine friends since the cottages were in operation! Dog policy - All food and equipment for the dog(s) is supplied by the owner(s). Under no circumstances are the dogs to be left unattended in the cottages. The dog(s) are not allowed on to the furniture, unless protection is provided by the owners. No dog is to be permitted upstairs in the cottages. If the dog is exercised on our land, it must be kept on a lead when other animals are grazing on the property. No dogs are to be taken into those fields where animals are grazing. All responsibility for the behaviour of the dog(s) is that of their owners. In the event of damage caused by the dogs the owners agree to compensate fully. The owners agree to ensure that they clear up any deposits made by the dog(s) on our property.
