It was built in 1836 by R.B. Holme, a British national and prominent figure during the early colonial settlement of the region. The cottage was part of the larger Holme Estate, which played a role in the early development of Murree as a summer retreat for British officers and their families. Constructed with traditional stone masonry and colonial architectural elements, Buckland Cottage was designed to provide a peaceful and cool sanctuary amidst the pine-covered hills—true to the vision of Murree as the “Queen of the Hills.” Over the decades, it has retained much of its original charm and structure, including thick stone walls, vintage woodwork, and panoramic forest views that have enchanted visitors for generations. Today, restored and renamed as Jungle Cottage (Banday Villa) and being managed by Saani Rooms as part of Saani Services a property management company, the property continues to offer the same sense of tranquility, heritage, and connection to nature that it did nearly two centuries ago. Staying here is not just about enjoying modern comfort—it’s about stepping into a piece of Murree’s living history.
