Description

There's nothing quite like Piper Point guesthouse, well, not this close to the city! 15 minutes from the city (15 minutes from the airport and 15 minutes to MONA), once you're here, it feels like you are miles from anywhere. Relax in your private self-contained guesthouse - set apart from the main house - or get active with a game of tennis or a dip in the heated (Sep - Mar) 15-metre lap pool followed by an uplifting infra-red sauna. Or just enjoy the peace and tranquility that surrounds you. The space Piper Point Guesthouse is ideal for a 'peaceful' getaway, and although you are 'in the bush' you really are only 15 minutes from Hobart CBD. The guesthouse is adjacent to the main house, but your space is entirely your own, with a separate entrance via the fully fenced back patio. There is an undercover carport under the guesthouse. On a warm night you can sit out on the north facing balcony and admire the view, or simply relax with a chilled beverage (there are MANY locally produced options to imbibe) and listen to nature (or you can count the number of trips the MONA Ferry makes upriver to MONA - we are diagonally opposite on the other side of the river). Fire up the BBQ in the patio area - and dine alfresco or take the picnic blanket (supplied) and sit on the lawn in front of the pool (this is a shared area). Of course, you are welcome to dine-in, too, with a fully equipped kitchen including full-sized refrigerator, and dishwasher, and an array of utensils, pots, pans, bakeware and electric frypan available. If exercise is your thing, then we have plenty of options on the property as well as numerous walking tracks virtually at your doorstep. The East Risdon Reserve backs on to the property, and Risdon Brook Dam and Mt Direction walking track are a mere three-minute drive away. The 15m pool is heated to 28-degrees and is available from September through March. Then, there is the full-sized synthetic grass tennis court; tennis racquets and balls are supplied. Or you can try your hand at table tennis - in the spacious patio area. If you wish to take the kayaks on the Derwent (you will need roof-racks on your car) then that option is available to you (on request). We have life vests available to borrow. There are some free-weights, exercise mat and 'pool toys' in the pool house. Relaxation? Yes, of course! There are two sunlounges on the pool deck (beach towels and robes are in the guesthouse for your personal use, and extras in the pool house) - so grab a book, or magazine from the shelf (or from the selection in the guesthouse) and soak up the sun at the same time. If the sun doesn't shine, don't worry, you can get plenty of warmth from the infra-red sauna at the rear of the pool deck (next to the pool house). The on/off switch is via a digital panel in the sauna. The health benefits of a good sweat in an infra-red sauna are astounding. The guesthouse has one bedroom with a queen-size (Tasmania made) mattress and features Tasmanian redgum timber bed and side-tables - all manufactured locally. All bedding, including protectors (pillow and mattress) are freshly laundered for every new guest. There is a Sunbeam electric blanket and additional wool blanket in the bedroom cupboard. Tasmanian Blackwood, from local suppliers, is featured in the living areas. We ask that you use the supplied trivets and coasters to protect the surface. Standard amenities are included (shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, toilet paper, tea, coffee, milk) and there is an espresso machine - which takes either capsules (Nespresso or Cafitaly), or ground coffee. Nespresso capsules and ground beans, as well as loose-leaf tea, oil, s&p, are also supplied. A small selection of Tasmanian wines, including sparkling, white and red wines from a local vineyard are available to purchase. Each bottle is individually priced, at close to retail prices. It's an honesty system and you can pay via cash or direct debit. For shopping, Lindisfarne Village pretty much has all you will need to satisfy your needs; Woolworths, Chemist Warehouse, Terry White Chemist, Banjos Bakery, newsagent, butchery, Australia Post, dry cleaner, hair salons, massage and physio services, bottle shop, cafes and restaurants, and is less than 10 minutes by car. A list of the cafes, bars and restaurants, and a host of other touristy suggestions close by (and further afield) are found in the guest compendium (with our humble opinion on most!) We hope you like dogs, but don't worry if that is not the case. Our Aussie Shepherd, Boomer is friendly and loves a pat, but he can be quite boisterous (ie, over enthusiastic with his welcome). We will keep him with us at all times, and if he is off the lead, you can be assured we are close by. We do not accept third party bookings. Guest access Shared spaces include the grassed area between the guesthouse and main house (this is the entry to the pool), the pool area, sauna and tennis court, and washing line. But as it's only our family here, you won't find it over-crowded! Other things to note As we are in the bush, you will, from time to time, come across some creepy crawlies (we don't use pesticide), including the odd huntsman spider (they look awful but are totally harmless). In summer (October to March), if you walk in the bush, just be a little cautious of snakes. From time to time the Portuguese millipedes decide to join us. They are completely harmless and tend to gravitate towards water (drains, etc) and appear after a good rain. We will do our best to keep these pests away, but there's no need to worry about them harming you. If you need a pest removed, please ask Pete (that's his job).
