There are fell walks from the front door and the pretty village of Threlkeld is within a mile, while the bustling market town of Keswick is 5 miles away. The handmade kitchen is well-equipped for whipping up culinary feasts and features original Honister slate flooring. Upstairs are four bedrooms: a king-size, two doubles with fell views, and a pretty twin. Outside, the large, enclosed garden has extensive lawns, mature trees and a patio with seating from where you can gaze at the breathtaking landscape. Keen walkers will enjoy the 6-mile path from Threlkeld to Keswick along the old railway line. Stock up with a drink and homemade cake from Threlkeld Coffee Shop before embarking on the trail, which weaves its way over the River Greta on some of the original Victorian railway bridges. Lively Keswick’s many attractions include Theatre by the Lake, the Pencil Museum, and Kong Adventure Centre, with indoor and outdoor fun activities for all ages.
