Note that the town regularly monitors the water for algae and bacteria throughout the summer to ensure it is safe to swim in the 3 town beaches. Boating is always fine, but it is not recommended to swim in the lake if the town beaches are closed (which does happen from time to time, particularly after large rainstorms in July or August). If you are bringing a dog be careful to check the town website for the algae levels before letting your dog swim in the lake to make sure the algae is at a safe level as it can be harmful for pets.
