Charming secluded country house This two story century old wood farmhouse is beautifully situated on 120 acres of property, a mix of forest, fields, pasture and plantation. The topography is varied and hikeable. Roads to the property are paved and dirt, typical of mountain roads in a rural environment and are kept clear and plowed in the winter months. The property feels isolated but is actually comfortably close to shopping and services. Delhi is less than 10 minutes away. There you will find a supermarket, hospital, golf course,restaurants, gas stations, and gift shops. Andes is 15 minutes away. There you will find tennis courts, community pool, quaint shops, farmers market and hotel tavern. The house is, as they say, "Conveniently located in the middle of nowhere." The house interior is easy-going and comfortable. The furnishings are casual, an eclectic and relaxed mix of furniture, art and objects. Original yellow pine wood floors are warmed with hot water radiant heat. A wood pellet stove gives firelight and additional heat throughout . Upstairs are hot water radiators in each room which warm quickly and maintain a cozy and comfortable temperature in the coldest conditions. The ground floor is an open plan around a central staircase and one bathroom with original claw foot tub. The kitchen area has a 6 burner Viking gas stove, Bosch dishwasher and under-counter fridge. There is a standard size refrigerator/freezer downstairs in the basement. Upstairs are 3 bedrooms, 1 with a queen size bed, 1 with a full-size bed and 1 with bunkbeds. Also available are 2 queen size air matrresses. Also upstairs is 1 bathroom with a roomy walk-in shower. There are two televisions for movie nights (or days)...there is no cable TV but there is Netflix and Apple TV. There are many books & DVD movies. There is WIFI and classic land line service. Just outside the front door, on the stone terrace is a 6' diameter stone firepit if you feel the need to roast marshmallows or warm up outdoors. You will see abundant wildlife. Commonly seen around the house are deer, fox, rabbit, groundhog, squirrel, chipmunk, hawk, crow, eagle, geese, duck, heron, grouse, dove, robin, among many other species. Tree lovers and leaf peepers will enjoy a variety species such as maple, ash, black cherry, apple, pear, birch and a variety of evergreens. Skiing at Belleayre or Plattekill is 45 minutes away. Hunter is about an hour. Oneonta, at 30 minutes away,is where you will find the big box stores, a roller rink, a movie theater. In Margaretville, at 20 minutes from the house, you will find Margaretville Bowl, a classic 60's bowling alley with 8 lanes, video games, food and drinks. Cooperstown, home of the Baseball of Hall of Fame, Farmers Museum and Glimmerglass Opera is about an hour away. There is much more to experience and explore in the area. You will need a car to access the house. Buses run from NYC to Andes and Delhi (Pinehill Trailways) but there is no way to get up to the house from Delhi or Andes without a car. Guests have access to the entire home. In the basement 2 rooms are locked but one is open and has a full fridge/freezer and washer/dryer. The guests will have the house all to themselves. The property is at the top of a mountain and feels very rural, but is just 10 minutes from the closest town and grocery store. You have to have a car to access this property.
