Comfortable, clean, cozy, and rustic log cabin just a few minute's walk up the hill from famous Torch Lake. Walking distance to shopping, dining, boating and recreation in Alden. Cabin is studio style, with queen bed and 2 futons with 425 square feet of living space. SLEEPS: 5 or 6 (1 queen bed, 2 sleeper sofas). one sleeper sofa can fit 2 children but probably just 1 adult. BATHROOMS: 1 *WOODED LOT (next to Coy Mountain Hiking Trail) *SWIMMING—4 minute walk from cabin *PETS WELCOME!but The space Cabin is simple and comfortably furnished so you can enjoy all the area has to offer. Kayaking, boating, hiking, shopping, dining, winery tours, etc. are all close by. Cabin has a TV and DVD player but no cable or satellite service. Cell phone reception is generally quite good in this area, but we do not provide internet service. There is a propane wall furnace for the cool months. Enjoy this classic log cabin located in Alden on a wooded lot. The cabin is only a short walk to great swimming, fishing, and boating on Torch Lake. The cabin is private, with one seasonal neighbor next door and one neighbor across the street. The yard has room for a boat trailer and you can use our fire pit for campfires. Guests tell us that our cabin is perfect for couples, families, or small groups of friends looking for peace and quiet and a chance to reconnect. Although there is more privacy than in many cottage areas, this is not a place for events or loud groups. We adhere to a good neighbor policy. Appreciate the fully equipped kitchen and games, puzzles and DVDs we provide. Outside you'll find a deck with grill, picnic table, and a few chairs by the fire pit. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Air Conditioning: No air conditioning, but a ceiling fan, and portable fans, along with screened windows will help keep you cool. Snowmobiles: Trails are about 10 minutes away on US-131. Animals: Birds, turkeys, deer, squirrels. Bathroom: Full bath with tub shower Beach/Swimming: Cabin is situated just a few minute's walk from Torch Lake where you will find a small swimming area. An information book in the cabin shows many other beaches on Torch Lake and Lake Michigan. Bedroom Configuration: This cabin is a studio, with half-walls separating the queen bed area from the rest of the cabin. Both sleeper sofas are in the living room area. Boats: Kayaks can be rented in Alden and Bellaire. Pontoon rentals are at DeWitt's Marina on Torch Lake/Clam River. Cable/Satellite TVs: Not available. We have many DVDs to watch. Cell phone service: Verizon and AT&T are good, all others are up for debate. Distances: * Traverse City: 35 minutes (21 miles) * Lansing: 2 hours 50 minutes ( 180 miles) * Detroit: 3 hours 40 minutes (245 miles) * Mackinac Bridge: 1 hour and 32 minutes (94 miles) * Sleeping Bear Dunes: 1 hour and 11 minutes (54 miles) Boat Launch: The public boat launch in Alden has trailer parking for about 20 cars but is also within walking distance of the cabin in case the parking lots are full. You can tie your boat up at one of the public temporary slips, drive the trailer back to the cabin and walk back in about 10 minutes. Fishing: Good fishing in both Torch Lake and Clam Lake (they are connected by Clam River). Fishing License: You can purchase your fishing license online at http://www.mdnr-elicense.com/Welcome/Default.aspx Fishing poles: Guests should bring their own. Grill: Charcoal. Guests should bring their own. Grocery Store: 5 minute drive to full market in Rapid City or 10 minutes to Bellaire. Internet: Not available. Linens: Yes, we provide your sheets, blankets, and towels. Just like a hotel, the beds will be made for you upon arrival. Guests should bring their own beach towels. There is a clothesline in the yard. Washer/Dryer: Not available, but a laundromat is 10 minutes away in Rapid City. Parking: Not paved, but fits up to 4 cars or 2 trucks/2 trailers Pets: Welcome! Privacy: Neighbors on one side and across street but forest on the other sides. Firewood: Bundles can be bought along roadside. Or, we can arrange for a firewood delivery ($25 for a large wheelbarrow full or $50 for a half face cord 4'x4'). Guest access: We will email your arrival/departure instructions with door/lock box code. You will let yourselves in and out. The house is yours during your stay, enjoy and relax. We live about 15 minutes away if you need anything! Guest access Guests have access to entire cabin and yard, including fire pit and hammock. Key code entry makes for easy check in and check out. Other things to note Pets are welcome here, so if you have a pet allergy it's probably best to look for a pet-free listing.
