Riverlake guesthouse is located in the small village of Fernandaires, in the heart of Portugal. Many guests arrive with plans to visit a new place every day. Morning Mirror — On calm mornings, the lake is so still that it reflects the green hills like a mirror. It's worth leaving before breakfast just to appreciate this natural beauty. ii. The Double Sunset — In the late afternoon there's a beautiful sunset in the garden. But the most observant guests discover that, two minutes away by car, at the Fernandaires viewpoint, there's a second, completely different one half an hour later. iii. Starry Sky — At night, far from the city lights, the sky fills with stars like few other places still offer. It's worth stopping for a moment and looking up. ★ The Garden and Life Outside The garden, with its own olive trees (from which we make our own extra virgin olive oil), fruit trees, flowers, and several spots with shade, is where most guests end up spending the most of their time. At Riverlake you step out of the gate and, just a few steps later, you are right on the water — the blue flag river beach of Fernandaires is right next door. ★ Explore the region (whenever you feel like it) A short drive away there's plenty to discover: Dornes and its Templar tower emerging from the water Convent of Christ in Tomar (UNESCO World Heritage Site) The fairytale castle of Almourol on an island in the middle of the river Caves, waterfalls and wooden walkways complete the itinerary, not forgetting Fátima, with one of the most visited sanctuaries in the world. Literally a minute's walk away there are also hiking trails and viewpoints with breathtaking views. ★ Bedroom and living room Bedroom with double bed (140x200cm), window overlooking the garden. Living room with sofa bed for 2 people, equipped kitchenette and Smart TV with Netflix. ★ Full Bathroom ★ Jacuzzi (October to April) We have a heated jacuzzi overlooking the lake — the perfect companion for cooler autumn and winter evenings, when that extra warmth makes all the difference after a day outdoors. Supermarkets, shops and restaurants are a 15-20 minute drive away. It's the price of tranquility: it keeps the area peaceful, authentic and with well-preserved nature. If you plan to cook, it's worth doing a larger shop along the way. ★ Activities (upon request, subject to availability and additional cost) Stand-up paddleboarding, boat trips, romantic or family picnics, wakeboarding, fishing, jet skiing, kayaking, pedal boats, private chef, traditional cooking classes, massages at home or in the garden. There is a second, larger house — the Riverlake House — on the same property, but each house has its own entrance, parking, and garden, with no common or shared areas between the two. You will never feel like you are sharing your stay with anyone. — What is the house like in summer/winter? The house has heating in the living room and bedroom for the colder months. In summer, a ventilation tower keeps the environment cool. — Are you very isolated? Is there noise nearby? It's a rural area with other houses nearby — occasionally you might hear a dog barking in the distance, or birds in the garden. If you are looking for the absolute silence of a studio apartment, the real countryside is more unpredictable than that. And, almost always, more beautiful. — Is it accessible for young children or people with reduced mobility? Children usually love it, but there are some steps on the property, so extra attention is requested. For reduced mobility, please speak with us before booking.
