Enjoy staying in a renovated, historic schoolhouse located on 7.5 acres at the edge of Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. You’ll be surrounded by beautiful mountain views while resting after a day of outdoor adventures in the North Cascades. The space The Schoolhouse is the perfect mountain retreat to enjoy with your family and friends. It is spacious and has room to sleep 8 people. Cozy up by the fireplace, cook a delicious meal in the spacious kitchen, or enjoy your favorite beverage on the patio while taking in mountain views. The Schoolhouse is the perfect launching point for all your outdoor adventures in the North Cascades. Guest access The Schoolhouse is located just off the road and easy to locate. Your access to The Schoolhouse will be an electronic keypad - a code will be sent to you prior to your arrival. There are 3 other dwellings located on the property; the tiny house and yurt, which are separated from The Schoolhouse by large fields, and the caretaker's cabin behind the schoolhouse. Our full-time caretaker lives on the property and is available to answer any questions you may have during your stay. Other things to note HISTORY The schoolhouse is a 100+ year old former one room schoolhouse that served the town of Grotto for the children of the workers who staffed the nearby cement factory and clay mine throughout the early and mid 20th century. We’ve named the property Moonshine Meadows because the earliest newspaper story we found in reference to the property was a report that the town was illegally storing alcohol in the basement of the schoolhouse during Prohibition 🙂 OTHER THINGS TO NOTE There are 3 other dwellings located on the property, but these are separated from The Schoolhouse by large fields and a privacy fence. Please be mindful of other guests on the property during your stay. We ask that you observe quiet hours between 10:00 pm - 7:00 am. Here is a map of the property so you are aware of the locations of the other dwellings. You will also be located near many local adventures and attractions: historic downtown Skykomish (4 miles), rock climbing in Index (10 miles), skiing at Stevens Pass (19 miles), the Bavarian village of Leavenworth (55 miles), fishing or white water rafting in the Skykomish River, and numerous nearby biking and hiking trails. Important: Access to nearby recreation areas can vary and is subject to WSDOT road conditions and safety closures.
