Description

Come enjoy The County! Our 1350 sq ft home is located in beautiful Northern Maine on 20 acres nestled between the Prestile Stream and the ITS 83 Trail. Up in "The County" you'll find the sky is bigger, the view is farther, and the sunsets are spectacular. Our location is rural, but not remote. Whether here for a couples' weekend, family getaway, or group adventure, it has everything you need for a relaxing stay at home or as a base camp for your excursions. Hunters, ATVs & sleds welcome. The space The space will give you the feeling of being at "camp," with the conveniences of home. Upstairs, there are two bedrooms: one with a king-size bed, and the other is a shared room with a queen-size bed plus a twin-over-twin trundle bed. Downstairs, there's an additional sleeping area off the kitchen with a daybed that converts into a queen-size bed. When not used for sleeping, this room is perfect for a game of chess or relaxing with a cup of tea and a good book in the oversized chair. The living room features a couch with a pullout bed, providing extra space for guests to spread out if needed. The eat-in kitchen is fully equipped with everything you will need to cook meals during your stay. It includes storage containers, pots, pans, utensils, baking pans, 3 types of coffee makers, and small appliances such as a griddle and waffle iron. THE PORCH While much of the home has been renovated, the front porch retains a more rustic charm. Due to the home's location, you may encounter spiderwebs and various insects, adding to the authentic outdoor experience. However, prior to your stay, we will make every effort to ensure that you will have a cleared seating area and table to greet you. Perhaps you will find appreciation in the beauty of a well-crafted web glistening in the morning dew. LOCATION We are 24 mi or 30 minutes from the Exit 302/Houlton on I-95. We have ample parking for multiple vehicles, trailers, ATVs and snow sleds. The basement is unfinished and should only be accessed in the event of an emergency due to a very steep stairwell. The garage is kept locked as this is where we store our property equipment. There is a small shed out back where garbage bins are kept. Other things to note IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE WHEN DECIDING TO BOOK: While the property includes 20 acres, the house is situated with the street directly in front of the porch. Across the street, you'll find a pond-like portion of the stream, and to the right is a dam that flows under the road and alongside the home. There's also a small veterans memorial with a picnic table and parking. While not heavily utilized, people do stop to take photos of the beautiful view, fish, canoe, or have lunch while riding the ATV trail. Down the road a bit on the other side of the dam/stream there's another small public area where people picnic, watch the stream, or let their kids use the swingset. Additionally, the state of Maine has a long tradition of private landowners sharing access to their property for recreational uses. While on the porch, you may encounter someone waving and asking to put in a canoe or kayak on our side of the stream or to fish for a little while. However, we do not allow hunting on the property at any time. On our street and in the streets throughout town and the county you will notice an abundance of potato and other crop fields. Depending on the time of year you visit you may witness the back and forth of farm equipment and vehicles traveling the road in front of the house. If you visit during fall harvest in September, the overflowing trucks have been known to drop enough potatoes in the yard to make a batch of breakfast potatoes. During this time there will also be an increase in truck activity as we are a farming community and our road is traveled to and from the fields on our road. If this is something you might find disturbing please check with us about the dates you are requesting to see if they coincide with the harvest weeks. NATURE Please understand that the home is in a rural environment on a waterway. For this reason, we are pesticide-free and use natural methods to maintain a healthy ecosystem where all living things can coexist. When booking this property, you acknowledge that this includes the presence of weeds, bugs, and wild animals. These are all part of the organic experience of living on a stream. Please keep doors and windows closed, especially when lights are on. We cannot control Mother Nature and do not offer refunds if you encounter her business in or around the house during your stay. We want every guest to have a wonderful stay and strive to prepare you for what to expect. If any of this makes you uncomfortable, our property may not be the right fit for you. WEATHER/CANCELLING We cannot control the weather and do not offer refunds for inclement conditions. Our firm cancellation policy does not allow for exceptions. We encourage you to purchase travel insurance to help mitigate any potential issues. Thank you for your understanding and supporting us as hosts/ business owners.
