The Tiny Cabin @ La Bruyere Farm
The Tiny Cabin @ La Bruyere Farm
Description
The latest addition the La Bruyere Farm collection. A wooden A-frame perched on the mountainside, among the pine trees. The perfect hideout for anyone needing a little dose of nature, adventure and peace. Located 90-minutes from Cape Town, it's the ideal spot for an easy getaway, and has something for everyone: hiking, mountain bike trails, wild swimming, fishing, bird watching, & more. The space Inside the cabin: Lofted bedroom (accessible by ladder) with a queen size bed. Bedding is 300TC percale cotton, all bedding is hypoallergenic with two types of pillows per person, memory foam mattress topper, a multi season duvet, plus comforter, additional blankets and hot water bottles for winter. A cozy living room with a comfortable sofa, a little library of curated books and games and HUGE windows for birdwatching and star gazing (you might even spot some fireflies). Well equipped kitchen, featuring a fridge/freezer, butler sink, gas hob, Le Creuset whistling kettle, lovely glassware, a tea / coffee station (with Bialetti and french press options, and a milk frother), all the kitchen basics – utensils, olive oil, seasoning, etc. Note that there is no microwave or toaster. The greenhouse style bathroom features a mostly panoramic windows and a clear roof for the outdoor shower effect, minus being cold in winter, as well as a rain shower, shampoo, bodywash and basic amenities. The toilet room is closed off for additional privacy. Other things Outside the cabin: - Two outdoor tubs (so each person has their own space, besties can bath together, and it doesn't take hours to heat or monk level patience to get the temperature right) - MegaMaster gas BBQ (with 3-burners) - outdoor seating and table Around the cabin: - Waterfall hike: approx. 3.8KM return - Sauna: wood fire sauna over looking the swimming dam (approx. 5 minutes from the cabin by car) is available to book at an additional fee - Mountain biking: cabin is based on the Cape Epic mountain biking trail - Trail running: our favourite is the epic loop (approx. 6KM) - Fishing: we have white fish in the swimming dam (close to the main house) and bass & carp in the fishing dam (on your right as you enter the farm) that you are welcome to catch and release. Local village: Tulbagh town is located about 15-minutes away. It is best known for it's wine farms, and has a wonderful selection of restaurants (from cafes to fine dining), a grocery store, day spa, mountain bike trails and the beautiful historic Church Street. A full recommendations list will be sent to guests ahead of their stay, so you can plan the perfect trip. Guest access Guests have the full cabin to themselves, as well as access to farm amenities (swimming dam, fishing dam, waterfall hike, hiking and mountain bike trails). Other things to note GAS & SOLAR The cabin is fully off-grid and uses a combination of solar for electricity (lights, plugs) and gas appliances (fridge, geyser, hob and braai). During winter months, backup UPS batteries will also be supplied. Please use power sparingly and do NOT bring appliances that draw more power than the system can output (i.e. hair dryers, toasters, etc.). WINTER HEATING We have a gas heater, hot water bottles, a multi season duvet (up-to 13-tog) and extra blankets. The cabin is well insulated and very cosy, however our area can get quite chilly outdoors during winter, so we would recommend checking the weather, bringing appropriate clothing / extra layers, and embracing the Scandinavian concepts of Hygge & Friluftsliv :) ACCESSABILITY Please note that the cabin is booked at your own risk and guests should be aware of the following: wooden pathway down to the cabin currently does not have railings, the bedroom is lofted and accessible by ladder (please check images and do not book if you think this is going to be an issue for you), there are direct drop offs at the end of areas of the decking. The cabin is not suitable for and does not allow infants, children or pets. Roads are well maintained and fine for smaller cars, however super low clearance cars may struggle. WEATHER Please note that we do not offer weather related refunds. WIFI & CONNECTIVITY We do not currently have wifi, but there is a wonderful cafe in town (10-mins drive) where you can grab a coffee and catch up on emails / have a meeting if needed. In terms of phone reception, we usually get around 2/4 bars of signal - enough to send a message or watch a video, however a video call would be patchy. PACKING RECS - simple meals (remember you're staying at a cabin and there's no dishwasher) - walking shoes, hat, SPF and water bottle - earth-friendly products (or use what we have provided) - summer: swimsuits & floaties (for the swimming dam) mosquito repellant - winter: warm cosy clothes, indoor slippers Remember you will need to carry all your belongings from the car park to the cabin (2-3 mins along a trail) so try pack light / use backpacks.
