Stissing Lake House | Hudson Valley Lake Front
Stissing Lake House | Hudson Valley Lake Front
Description
Whether you're here for a Stissing House wedding, a family summer, or a month by the lake — Stissing Lake House is your private Hudson Valley base. Swim from the dock. Sip champagne on the porch. Walk the mountain trails before the rehearsal dinner. This is a house made for celebration — spacious, romantic, and quietly grand. Kayaks, paddleboards, chef's kitchen, firepit. 6-bedroom Victorian overlooking a 70-acre spring-fed lake. Sleeps 14. Just 90 miles from NYC. The space Stissing Lake House sits on 11 private acres at the edge of a 70-acre spring-fed swimming lake, at the base of Stissing Mountain in the Hudson Valley. Wake up to mist rising off the water and herons wading in the shallows. Have your coffee on the wraparound stone porch while the lake comes to life. Spend the morning paddling or swimming from the private dock — the lake is motorboat-free, quiet enough to hear the birds. In the afternoon, retreat to the secret garden under the grape arbor, or sink into a hammock beneath 100-year-old sugar maples. As the sun drops behind the mountain, gather around the stone firepit circle — twelve Adirondack chairs, open water, and the kind of sky you forget exists 90 miles from the city. Many guests say the photos don't do it justice. They're right. This is a place people settle into — families spanning four generations, wedding weekends, creative retreats, extended summer stays. The wraparound porch alone has hosted more long dinners and slow mornings than we can count. The dining room, with its Victorian millwork and fireplace, seats the whole group for evenings that tend to run late. The house is a yellow Victorian with a turret, a stone porch, and more than a century of history. Legendary Broadway composer Jerry Herman spent time here while writing the score for Hello, Dolly! It still has that kind of unhurried, storied quality. THE KITCHEN This is a real chef's kitchen — not just a well-stocked one. The centerpiece is a 6-burner Jade Range with a 24" grill, double ovens, and a custom hand-painted tile backsplash. Add a Vitaprep blender, pancake griddle, slow cooker, and more cookware than most restaurants own. Guests who love to cook tend to disappear in here. THE BEDROOMS Six bedrooms sleep 14 comfortably. Every antique bed has been fitted with a quality modern mattress — the character of the past, the sleep of the present. 🛏️ 2nd floor: Primary Suite — King bed, working fireplace, double clawfoot soaking tub, separate steam shower, Toto bidet, and lake views. An unforgettable place to wake up. Pink Room — Double bed in a sun-filled room overlooking the grounds. Peach Room — Four-poster double bed in a bay-windowed corner room. One of the prettiest rooms in the house. Hall Bath — Marble bath with shower, tub, and view of the sunken garden. 🛏️ 3rd floor: Blue Room — Queen bed, skylight, ensuite clawfoot tub and hand shower. Yellow Room — Queen wrought iron bed with sloped attic ceiling, exposed brick chimney, ensuite bath, and lake view. Includes infant crib. Bunk Room — Double bottom, single top, trundle, and loft bed. Perfect for kids or the adventurous. Book your stay at Stissing Lake House to soak in the creative vibes where musical history was made, and enjoy the perfect blend of history, comfort, and those unforgettable lake views. Guest access Guests have full access to the entire 11-acre property — the lake, the lawns, the dock, the garden, and all outdoor spaces. Also on property is our guest cottage, a converted c.1900 barn available to rent separately. The cottage has its own private lawn, firepit, garden, and dock — a completely self-contained experience. Ideal for larger groups or families who want a little space between generations. Inquire for availability. THE LAKE Stissing Lake is a 70-acre spring-fed swimming lake with no motorized boats. Still water, clean swimming, and a quietness that's increasingly rare. The floating dock sits out in the middle — swim out, jump off, stay a while. The private dock is stocked with kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards, ready to launch.
