Farm Cottage
Calling all writers, artists, birders, nature lovers, and railroad buffs! The 100-year-old cottage is full of cozy creature comforts. We offer a comfy living room, three bedrooms, a workstation with wi-fi (but its rural wi-fi), and a full kitchen with a wood stove. Stocked with books, games and puzzles for all ages, the Cottage has everything you need, without being too fussy for all ages to kick back and relax. Outdoor steam sauna for your relaxation. The space Come get away from it all at Plas Newydd, a working farm at the confluence of the Lewis and Columbia Rivers. The Cottage features a covered front porch for coffee, a fenced front yard and a back deck with expansive views of farm buildings and pastures. We’re just 10 minutes off the freeway, but we’re at the end of a private road and it feels like another world once you get here! We are on the major migration path for migratory waterfowl and are visited by trumpeter and tundra swans, sandhill cranes, pelicans and a variety of geese and ducks throughout the year. We’re also home to healthy resident populations of bald eagles, great blue herons, and more. Don’t worry, if you forget your binoculars we have a pair for you! Enjoy walks along the river, and gorgeous sunsets right from your back porch! You may also see ships on the Columbia River from the main bedroom. Feel free to bring your paddle boards and kayaks, and we’ll help you get on the river. (There are kayak rentals available at Ridgefield Kayak Rentals in downtown Ridgefield.) Don’t feel like cooking? We’re just minutes from historic downtown Ridgefield, with several casual restaurants, food carts and bars, and 10 minutes from the Ilani Casino, with a host of fine dining options. There’s a grocery store, a handful of restaurants, and shopping opportunities out by the freeway. Great base for exploring the Lewis River watershed and Mount St. Helens. The farm is near the main rail line between Portland and Seattle, with regular train traffic. If you love trains, this is the spot to watch them. If you're a light sleeper or sensitive to noise, bring some earplugs! Guests have been known to count every train the first night they are here, but then the farm works its magic and by the second night they don’t hear a single one! While the space has wi-fi be aware that it is a rural wi-fi and it's the only service in the area. The remote location results in unreliable service so there are no refunds if issues arise. There is good cell coverage and fast for most companies. If you have critical network needs it would be best to have a backup cell option in this space. Guest access Guests have access to the house, fenced front yard, and back porches and ground-level patios. The outbuilding in the parking lot is currently closed. Please respect all fences between the house and pastures, and stay clear of barnyard areas and outbuildings. This is a working farm, and fencing are actively in use! Guests can walk down the paved road to the river, but must contact host to walk on farm, or launch boats in advance of stay. If you are interested in a tour of the farm or historic home on the property, please contact the host to make arrangements. We're happy to show you around, but need to make sure we're available to do so. Other things to note • Possible access available to a private boat ramp and dock; please contact the host for more information. • Plas Newydd is a large working farm, with cattle and horses, and farm activity throughout the year. Please check with host before walking on the farm, as access will fluctuate according to what’s happening on the farm. This includes operational training occasionally with search and rescue teams. • Parking for boat, RV and multiple vehicles. • Pets ok with prior arrangements. • EV Charger available at no charge J1772 (Tesla owners, bring an adapter). • We have country wi-fi here, so the connectivity can fluctuate depending on weather conditions. . Steam Sauna • No-contact check-in and check-out. • Security camera monitoring the parking area. • PLEASE NOTE!!! The cottage is very near the main rail line between Portland and Seattle, with train traffic throughout the day and night. We love the noise, but we’re used to it, so if you’re a light sleeper, please bring your favorite ear plugs, but don’t be scared away!
