Harbour House
Habour House is a great place to spend a relaxing weekend or your entire vacation. Located across from the Malecon. Enjoy the water views from the front porch. The space Harbour House, (beach/cabin style, simple, basic, clean and safe) with ocean view (on the Malecon) deck, covered patio, stainless steel bar-b-q. 3 bedrooms/3 futons or daybeds. Up to 10 people, very economical for families. Great access to snorkeling, kayaking, water sports, scuba diving, deep sea fishing, dry forest and loads of beaches. Located walking distance to fresh fish market. Harbour House is an older home in traditional Caribbean style, part block, part wood with a tin roof and tile floor. I've seen tens of thousands throughout the islands and similar to what I knew as lake or beach cabins back in the U.S. The opposite of luxury Harbour House is economical and comfortable. Every square inch of the place is shown in video to avoid surprises. Our property has the greatest appeal to larger families on a budget, budget travelers, outdoor sports enthusiasts (diving, fishing, snorkeling, kayaking, surfing, etc.) and people looking for “the Caribbean for the rest of us”Issues & FAQ: 1) Noise: The Malecon (street in front of the bay) comes alive on weekends with families. The party very PG rated, including karaoke, can last until midnight. There has never been a guest complaint, they included themselves in the activities, food, drink, bounce and other rides for the kids in a festive safe atmosphere. Sat and Sun are the big nights with the fun ending early on Sunday. 2) AC There are two air conditioners in the house. One in the living room which blows through out the house. The master bedroom has a window unit that cools the house along with fans. There has never been a guest issue with being hot, most report being very comfortable to chilly at night given the sea breezes. The adjoining rooms have open space at top to allow cool air flow.3) Cooking: The kitchen has a stove and microwave. Outside we have two burners and a big stainless steel bar-b-que, a large picnic table and a sink. Guests enjoy cooking seafood and eating al fresco under the covered patio.4) Bleach: we disinfect the entire house with 50/50 mix of bleach/water. Some guests have said they have a sensitivity to bleach.5) Bugs: We have a monthly service with spray, foggers and termites. It is the tropics, if food is left out there will be bugs. If you see bugs, ants, roaches, termites, please report to management immediately where we may treat.6) Trash: Trash collection is weekly.7) House furnishings and décor: An eclectic assembly of this and that from travels. Rooms are named after some favorite Caribbean bars and restaurants; mementoes from travels and a family restaurant business. There are some water spots on drop down ceiling that have bled through the new paint but the entire house is dry safe and clean. Fluorescents lights throughout the house. Sheets are provided for the beds, comforters/blankets are not provided, guests can regulate the house temperature with the air conditioner. 8) Small Caribbean issues: All the time spent in the Caribbean I noticed the smaller the place the more stray dogs, cats, chickens/roosters and roadside trash that exists. It was that way in Turks and Caicos and it's that way in Guanica Puerto Rico. Guanica is beautiful nature just like Turks and Caicos, but mankind can be unkind, unthoughtful and downright destructive. 9) SAFETY: Is it safe in Guanica? Yes it is you may come and go as you please, violent crime is almost non-existent however still protect yourself from petty crime by locking car doors and storing valuables. Puerto Rico seems to have a bad reputation for crime but its almost exclusively due to the big cities, San Juan, not unlike Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, Miami, Boston or D.C. 10) Hot water: On demand tankless hot water heater for the shower, the slower the water the hotter the water. There is no hot water in the sinks. 11) TV: We provide basic cable TV and Netflix.12) Wireless internet service is provided.13) Towels and linens are included unless you prefer to bring your own.14) Cleaning: Cleaning is done on check out before new guests arrive.15) Dust/Dirt: Most everyone enjoys the breezes through the screened windows, which brings in whatever is in the air. The trade winds in the Caribbean originate in Africa don't be surprised to see a layer of dust after a breezy relaxing day, it's part of nature and a big part of living by the sea. Enjoy Harbour House as you would your own lake or beach cabin. Guest's issues should be addressed immediately. We have security cameras on the exterior of the house.
