The space It's not Georgetown,...but it's close. And very close to Churchill Downs, which is, after all what it's all about on Derby Day. And very close to Churchill Downs, which is, after all, what it's all about on Derby Day. This 1 BR, 1-1/2 B condo is located on Millionaire's Row in Old Louisville, one of America's most recognized and talked-about historic neighborhoods. The restored 1902 residence features a marble foyer, the original brass railings, 11' ceilings, exposed brick, tall windows, and 110-year-old hardwood floors. It would be a wonderful place to spend any Saturday morning. But on Derby Day, after enjoying a bagel and coffee and OJ in the sun-drenched kitchen, you can walk out the front door and find yourself standing in front of the twin spires 1.63 miles later. Or if walking in your dress shoes (and Derby hat!) is not your thing, you can walk one short city block to the bus stop where you can board a coach to the track and arrive about five minutes later (and if you've never been to the Derby, this is how the locals do it). The bedroom features a king-size bed. The second bedroom has been converted to an office, but is furnished with a futon which makes into a one or two-person bed. The kitchen features modern appliances, a Bunn coffee-maker, a toaster, and just about anything else you would need, including a washer and dryer. The unit includes Wi-Fi and cable (and historic artifacts, such as a land-line). One off-street parking space is available. Two of Louisville's highly-lauded restaurants are within walking distance: Amici's was commandeered by a famous Hollywood movie star's party several years ago for a Derby Eve cook-in, and Buck's features white tablecloths, an outdoor patio, and one of the city's great bourbon collections. The Frederick Law Olmsted-designed Central Park is five blocks away, as is Saint James Court, one of the country's most celebrated neighborhoods. The University of Louisville is two blocks south, and Louisville's center city (the site of “Fourth Street Live") and the Louisville waterfront (featuring a one-mile pedestrian bridge across the Ohio River) are only a five-minute drive (or short bus ride) away. Louisville International Airport (SDF) is five to six minutes away by car (on a bad day). However, you can catch a bus at the very front door of the terminal ($1.75) which will drop you off four houses from our back door fifteen minutes later. You can similarly walk out our front door—not even that short city block away--and catch the same bus for the same fare to drop you off at the same terminal door fifteen minutes later. Guests will have access to all features of the unit. The owners will--unfortunately (since they usually attend the Derby--be out of town but are available by phone to answer any questions. Because the unit is self-contained, guests will have absolute privacy. Historic Old Louisville contains more Victorian homes and mansions than any other neighborhood in the the United States. The wide sidewalks and tree-lined streets make it easy to walk to restaurants, parks, and the University of Louisville.
