1762 Farmhouse near Saratoga, Adirondacks, Vermont
Description
Pre-Revolutionary War-era farmhouse, fully restored with a cozy blend of old and new, nestled within the rolling hills of idyllic Battenkill Valley outside of Cambridge, NY -- one of the friendliest places in the country. Oozing with bucolic charm, it awaits your stay! The space Old meets new, and rustic charm meets custom comfort, in this pre-Revolutionary period saltbox farmhouse. Situated in the rolling hills of the Cambridge Valley – a gorgeous 40-min drive from Saratoga Springs – this is the perfect location for those who want to be close to the racetrack but also "away from it all," quietly tucked away from the hustle-and-bustle around race time. History buffs will be taken by the house and its grounds (Revolutionary war gravestones located in the backyard!). Culture seekers will be within close shooting range reach of the many other draws of this culturally and naturally rich area – from nearby Manchester and Dorset VT (35 mins) to Williamstown MA and Mass MoCA (45 mins). Nature abounds as well, with breathtaking hiking/biking trails and Class A fishing in every direction. Built by Irish immigrant Thomas Green in the 1760s, the "Green House" itself is the oldest home in the local area, and has been awarded a Historic Preservation award. The current owners have been lovingly restoring it to preserve its legacy while outfitting it with all the amenities to make it a fully modern home-away-from-home where you can relax in comfort. The recently updated kitchen and downstairs bath highlight all the original details while adding all the creature comforts of a modern getaway -- largely using materials sourced locally, from Granville NY slate to NH tile and VT marble as well as artifacts excavated right on the property! Outside, enjoy a bonfire in the 1700s cauldron retrofitted as a fire pit, or drinks and dinner on the deck while watching the sun setting over the hills and original smokehouse. Ancient fruit trees, including native wild grape vines and apple trees, dot the property, as do wild rose, lilac, lilies and crocuses. Two nicely appointed bedrooms accommodate 4, and a downstairs office can fit an air mattress to sleep an additional 2. Available by the week or month during race season. Although there is no television, high-speed DSL connection is available. Dogs allowed with permission of owner.
