House: We have lovingly rehabbed this nineteenth century solid brick farmhouse and turned it into a cozy, modern home. The house is on a secluded two acres with plenty of trees and a babbling brook. The Farmhouse has been updated with all conveniences, including central AC, heat and high speed WiFi (a Ubiquiti mesh network). This is not a rustic cabin, but some seriously awesome luxury. A great way to enjoy the outdoors. If you have any special needs, just ask. We live just ten minutes away. Bedrooms: The Farmhouse can sleep up to six people, but also perfect for a couple who want a quiet getaway. We gladly provide all bed linens, towels and pillows. There are two bedrooms in the main house. The master suite has a king size bed with new pillow top mattress and flat screen TV. The second bedroom has a West Elm Queen Bed that comfortably sleeps two which also includes a work desk and two lounge chairs. The super private, separate Writers Cabin has a Restoration Hardware Queen Bed that sleeps two. There's also a work desk, flat screen TV w/ Netflix, wifi, and AC /Heat (guests will need to use the house bathroom). Bathrooms: We have a full bath upstairs with a brand new, Americast soaking tub. Downstairs, there's a half bath powder room with an energy efficient, compact clothes washer. We provide soap, shampoo, towels, and washing detergent. Living room: We love to spread out on the loungey, L-shaped couch and mid century style leather, chairs. There are plenty of board games, playing cards, novels, kids books and magazines to read. Or hook your phone up to the bluetooth speaker and play music on the stereo. Kitchen: The kitchen is fully equipped with an eight person farm table and antique, deep double bay soapstone sink and newly installed Bosch Ultra-quiet dishwasher. You’ll have everything you need to cook a holiday meal, bake cupcakes, or just make coffee + toast and use the microwave for simple reheating. We provide a blender, crock pot/slow cooker, pots, pans, dishes and all utensils. If you need anything we don’t have, we'll do our very best to accommodate. We provide a lot of "starter stuff" so guests don't have to over-buy for short stays (condiments, spices, cooking oil, charcoal, bug repellent, etc). Coffee. We love it! so we provide a couple different ways to make coffee. We have a Bonavita drip machine with a reusable brass filer. Or you can use our stainless steel french press. We provide Broad Porch ground coffee (roasted by us right here in Luray!), sugar (and non-sugars), creamer, stevia. If you bring your own beans, you can use our electric burr grinder. There's a number of different tea bags as well because tea is good too. Entertainment: The house and yard have high speed WiFi access. We installed a Ubiquity mesh network so the internet reaches to all corners of the yard and around the house. If they even have it, many local rentals have slow satellite access or very limited bandwidth from the cell towers. We made sure to get fast, unlimited broadband. Lounge inside to check your email, or wander outside to research bugs and birds on Wikipedia. Both flat screens are hooked up to Apple TVs. You can watch unlimited shows and movies on our Netflix account, or sign in to any of your accounts to watch what you want (NFL, NHL, HBO, MLB, iTunes, Hulu, etc). Kid stuff: Because you're probably traveling with enough stuff already, we do have a high chair, a Pak n' Play, and plastic eating dishes for small kids. Just let us know if there's an infant in your group so we can have everything ready for your arrival. BBQ, Campfires: We custom designed and built this brick outdoor BBQ to double as a grill and fireplace. We love to have a meal on the deck while looking out over the hills and the friendly herd of cows next door. Sometimes the cows even come up to the fence to say hello. We always leave you with some starter charcoal, BBQ tools, and plenty of firewood. We also have a little campfire pit on the side yard with plenty of seating, perfect for some s'mores action! Night time star gazing: The firepit is the perfect spot to sit, watch the stars, and listen to the night sounds. Because our nearest neighbor is a quarter mile away, this is one if the best areas in Luray to see the Milky Way without light pollution. Outdoor Space: There are two acres of land so you’ll have plenty of room to play a game of soccer, toss the frisbee or play other games from our equipment box. Read a book at at any of our shaded picnic tables. Explore the stream running along the property when the rain has come. Hang out in the hammock and watch the sun go down over the hill. There is also a covered area to park up to four motorcycles. We provide several binoculars and bird watching books if you want to wake up early to see the forest come alive. There's a family of turkeys and deer who pass through our property at different times of the year. We even have an owl that lives in our owl box that you can see from the porch if you're lucky. There's a soaking spot on the edge of our property. After you walk through a small stand of trees, you'll find a secluded watering hole in the limestone creek bed, filled with fresh water that comes off the National Park. Take a cool dip on a hot Virginia day. You'll want to wear shoes since it's rocky. Parents can decide if it's safe for kids. Renewable Power: We buy 100% renewable power from our local electric coop, which buys the power from Stony Creek Wind Farm. We have an outdoor 110v outlet if you want to trickle charge your electric vehicle (we hope to see more of them visit). If you are Elon Musk, we'd love a supercharger, but we'll have to stick with 110v for now! Neighborhood Lake: Lake Arrowhead is just a short walk down our quiet gravel road. Maintained by the town of Luray, you can pay a small fee to rent canoes, paddle boats, or enjoy the beach area with a lifeguard. If you have your own boat, you're welcome to put in (but no motors since this is the town's reservoir). There's also a trail that winds around the lake for a great mile walk. It's a lovely (and free!) way to spend an early morning and get some exercise. We have two single person kayaks you can use (including life preservers and paddles). You'll just need a way to get them back and forth to the lake. Just let us know and we can leave them out for you. Luray Caverns: The Caverns are world famous since they were discovered over a century ago. The family who runs the Caverns have done a great job creating an inspiring, tasteful experience. It's a perfect place for an afternoon trip underground. There also plenty of other activities for kids like the giant maze and jungle gym. The Pioneer museum showcases demonstrations on how the first settlers in the area lived. Shenandoah National Park: We're only five miles from the entrance to the Shenandoah National Park. You can buy a day or week pass into the park to drive the 110-mile Skyline Drive. Choose from the approximately 100 day hikes (of varying difficulty) that show off the Park's many waterfalls and vistas. We have booklets describing all the hikes. If you want to get 5 feet away from a deer, you'll be able to. Sometimes it's fun to eat at Skyland on top of the mountain where you can see the all of Luray and Page County below. Shenandoah River Outfitters: A short drive across Luray will bring you to the river outfitters where you can rent a canoe, kayak or tube for hanging out on the Shenandoah River. A must-do activity when the weather is nice. You'll never forget the times you spend on the river. If you have your own boat, you can use a number of public boat landings as well. Weddings: Since we're less than 5 miles to Khimaira and Faithbrook farms, we have many couples use our farmhouse as their homebase during their wedding adventure. Usually a bride stays to get ready with her bridesmaids before the big event. Our property is a great place for pre-wedding photos. Newly married couples then enjoy their honeymoon where they can relax on our secluded property. In order to help you look your best, we have a full length mirror, iron and ironing board and lint rollers. Small Town USA: Luray is a quintessential small American town with a number of restaurants from fancy dining to burger joints. Gathering Grounds is our coffee shop w/ wifi, and Fairview Grocery makes fresh donuts from scratch every Saturday, get there early, they always sell out! Every Saturday morning from May-September, there's a great Farmer's market in town to pick up local produce and meat from area farms. The indoor Willow Grove Farm Market sells locally produced food all year long. Several pizza places deliver to the farmhouse. For quick needs, there's Fairview Grocery just five minutes from the Farmhouse that has sandwiches, beer, wine, snacks, and homemade donuts (only on Saturdays, they are amazing). Treasure hunt at the antique stores, or grab outdoor gear at the outfitters. The 6-screen movie theater, a true local treasure, is open for matinee and evening screenings. Uncle Bucks is the sports bar where locals enjoy the game (stays open till 1am every night). Several groceries stores and Walmart will provide you with everything you need. There's also The Valley Cork wine bar that's open Thurs-Sunday 4-10 to enjoy a local (or int'l) wine tasting. Hawksbill Brewery recently opened where they make all their own beer. The Luray Zoo is on the edge of town and famous for rescuing exotic animals. Perfect for kids who want to safely get close to animals (like goats!). A newly renovated hospital w/ a 24-hour emergency room is just 10 minutes away. We provide a binder with maps of everything close by and are just a text away if you have questions. Guest access Guests have private access to the entire house and grounds.
