The Front House on the Farm
Description
This sweet island getaway is on an 18 acre South Whidbey Island farm with a cozy living space, comfy beds, farmhouse kitchen, back deck with a view, and large yard. Central for shopping, wineries, restaurants, beaches, and walks in the woods. The space This is old Seattle charm on rural Whidbey Island. The Front House is a 'Seattle freeway house'. It was one of many old homes moved from Seattle and barged to new locations around Puget Sound many years ago when the freeway was built. We live in the 'Back House' on this 18 acre property where we raise beef and enjoy a quiet life on Whidbey Island surrounded by tall trees, deer, eagles, hawks, birds, rabbits, raccoons, and coyotes sharing our space. The cows might be curious about your activities. Guest access If no one is occupying the house the night before your arrival, we will let you know as you may be able to check in early. Check out time is usually flexible. Parking is close to the house. You have full access to the main level of the home which includes kitchen, living room, full bath, 2 bedrooms, and front and back porches. The basement has laundry facilities available for stays over 4 nights, but the stairs to the basement are very steep and not safe for children. The house has a large back yard with fruit trees, some views of Holmes Harbor and the Cascade Mountains, a back porch to relax, charcoal grill, and a fire pit for small fires when allowed by Island County. The back yard is bordered by an electric fence so children need your very close supervision to avoid being shocked. Other things to note The kitchen is old fashioned, with updated stove and refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee maker (Keurig) and coffee. There is no dishwasher, and no garbage disposal. The house has electric heat and a fireplace insert. We welcome children but the house is not entirely 'child proof' or 'child friendly'... be aware of hazards including porch steps, steep basement stairs (basement door has a lock), electric fences, fireplace insert without screen guard, cleaning supplies within reach, and barbecue and fire starting supplies in the back hall shelf containing sharp objects. We are on a well with a septic system. Returning guests we have great news: New well filter system this year! Mineral odor of tapwater is nearly undetectable!
