Description

Built in 1920, this cozy, peaceful, renovated camp sits on Maranacook Lake. Nestled among majestic pines, it features a private dock, mooring, and deep-water frontage. A tandem (2 person) kayak and 2 paddle boards are available for guests. The 2-bedroom camp (sleeps 6) has a well-equipped kitchen, inviting living room, and spectacular views of the lake from the screened-in porch and deck. Just 2 ¾ hrs from Boston, 1 hr from Portland, ME, and 1 ¾ hrs from Portsmouth, NH. The space ------------------------------------------------------------- ***PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING*** Linens are not provided (sheets, pillowcases, and towels) since we don't have a washing machine (shoreline/zoning regulations). We do provide pillows, blankets, a bathmat, hand towel, and dish towels. If this poses a problem (i.e., you are flying to Maine), please contact us as soon as you book to inquire about renting linens. ------------------------------------------------------------- On the 1st floor, there’s a full kitchen with original pantry and farmhouse sink; bathroom with new shower; and living room with direct access to the large screened-in porch and deck. The view from the porch is mesmerizing; from your perch among the trees (you'll feel like you are in a tree house!), you can listen to the loons while you drink your morning coffee, read a book, dine at the country-style table or play board games, and take in the beautiful sunsets in the evening. For chilly mornings, there is a heater in the living room that warms the first floor up in minutes. There is also a small desk and computer monitor if you need to work during your stay. The 2nd floor has 2 sunny bedrooms: a master bedroom with queen-sized bed and dresser, and a guest bedroom with 2 twins, bunk beds and a dresser (sleeps 4). Ceiling and window fans help to cool off the rooms at night in the summer months. Other things to note • Bottled water provided for drinking/cooking (bubbler) • Wifi (there is no tv, so bring a device to stream if you like) • Microwave, coffee maker, ice cream maker, lobster pot, cookware/bakeware, utensils, etc. • Pantry staples provided (oil, vinegar, A1, soy sauce, sugar, salt/pepper, spices, coffee filters, paper towels, plastic wrap, etc. • Gas BBQ grill • Picnic table • Window and ceiling fans • Heater • Games, puzzles, basketball hoop, cornhole • Tandem (2-person) kayak • 2 paddleboards • Life preservers MARANACOOK LAKE Maranacook has excellent water quality—great for swimming, fishing (both cold and warm water sport fishing), and boating. The dock has a ladder for easy access in and out of the water. Our end of the lake is fairly quiet, with limited boat traffic. A tandem (2 person) kayak and 2 paddleboards are available for guests’ use, or rent a motor boat and explore Maranacook’s 1,800 acres. THE AREA This part of Maine—the Maine Lakes Region—is spectacular, with rolling hills, farms, orchards, and hiking and mountain biking trails. In Readfield center (3 miles from camp) there’s a convenience store, post office, a tiny library, and a few restaurants. Or visit Winthrop (10 minutes away) for groceries at Hannaford, Walgreens, ACE hardware, a laundromat, quaint shops, a library, and restaurants. A FEW NEARBY DESTINATIONS AND ACTIVITIES • Manchester (10 minutes): Kennebec Cabin Company, a retail store and café, and home of Cabin Masters reality tv show. • Monmouth (15 minutes): The Theater at Monmouth, which hosts summer productions in Cumston Hall, an architectural gem listed on the National Register of Historic Places. • Belgrade Lakes (20 minutes): Belgrade Lakes Golf Club, an award-winning course ranked as one of the top-100 public golf courses. • Augusta (20 minutes): Maine’s capital city, which still has a historic, small-town feel. Museums, arboretum, restaurants, shops, movies, EV-charging, etc. • Brunswick (40 minutes): a really nice college town (Bowdoin), lovely art museum, fun shops and restaurants/cafes along the main street, huge antiques "emporium" called Cabot Mill Antiques, and a large flea market on weekends. • There are many conservation areas and hiking trails in the area. • Fruit picking and farms: In the summer, R&L Berry Farm has u-pick raspberries. In the fall, Kent’s Hill Orchard offers apple picking. (Be sure to stop at The Apple Shed Bakery while you are there!) There are also a number of family farms in the area with fresh produce and meat.
