Other things to note The purpose behind this initiative is driven by the significant migration crisis in Uttarakhand, where more than 500,000 people have left the state in the last decade, resulting in 734 abandoned villages. This exodus has placed the region's vibrant art, culture, music, craftsmanship, language, and festivals at risk of extinction. However, there's a glimmer of hope as these deserted villages in Uttarakhand are experiencing a resurgence with the return of migrants who had left for the cities. Around 330,000 workers have come back to the state following the COVID-19 lockdown, with Pauri-Garhwal and Almora districts witnessing the highest reverse migration. Starting with the village of Deholi, the goal is to prevent these returning migrants from leaving their homes again in search of employment opportunities in urban areas. By offering them an additional source of income and avenues to explore various job prospects locally, the initiative aims to save these villages from becoming ghost towns while preserving their rich art and cultural heritage.
