The Refuge - Wood cabin set in nature
Description
This cosy, modern cabin is hidden away down a long private drive set amongst 11 acres of wilded land. Perfect to relax or get away for a working break with full fibre and 2 adjustable desks with a view. The land is yours to explore with 2 streams, wildflowers, mature trees, a swing and if you are brave take a dip in the pond. Located on a footpath, explore the local area with circular walks. By night snuggle up in front of the log burner or sit out and watch the barn owl or listen for otters. The space The Refuge is a stylish cabin in an elevated position overlooking a wide river valley. With large windows and doors opening out to the south and west, the living space is light and airy with views over the wildflower meadows and a well frequented bird feeder in the foreground, on to the wilded river valleys, majestic veteran oaks and Cornish countryside beyond, with a glimpse up to the village church. The main living space is open plan with a well equipped kitchen, gas oven and hob, fridge, coffee machine, cafetiere and various pots and pans and utensils. Tea, coffee and milk will be provided on your arrival. In each corner of the main space there are two electrically operated sit/stand desks with ergonomic chairs, overlooking beautiful views and served with full fibre internet with speeds up to 130 Mbs. With wi-fi and ethernet The Refuge offers the perfect working holiday retreat if you need a change of scenery or escape from the city. Whilst we don’t provide a TV the speed is perfect for streaming services on a laptop. As we use the space for work there are drawers under each of our desks with our personal items in them and a sideboard at the back of the space with stationary and filing. These are neat and tidy and unobtrusive. At the heart of the living area is the log burner which provides heating for the main space and makes it super cosy. Logs and fire lighting equipment are provided. The seating area is an Ercol sofa and armchair for comfortable afternoons or evenings in. The bedroom has a comfortable European double bed with linen sheets and bedspread. There is an electric oil radiator in the bedroom and heated towel radiator in the bathroom if additional heating is desired. In the bathroom there is a hot water shower, macerator toilet and cold tap in the sink. Towels will be provided. Outside we have 11 acres which are yours to explore. We are managing the land for the benefit of wildlife which makes it a rich and diverse habitat. We have wildflower meadows, wilder meadows with meandering paths leading to a variety of mown picnic spots next to the two streams, and one with a big swing (yes, for adults too!), a number of wetted scrapes and our recent addition of a large pond if you’re feeling brave enough to take a dip! Apart from us, a nesting barn owl (during the spring and summer), sheep and a variety of wildlife we have no near neighbours, so it is a very tranquil place to recharge the batteries and connect with nature. Guest access Access to the property is down a long unmade private driveway which runs along a pretty stream. Parking is on a shared driveway then access up to the cabin is via a gently sloping path approx. 40m from the parking area. Being a rural location, it can get muddy so we suggest bringing some wellies with you! If you’re arriving late we suggest you bring a torch and we will leave you clear instructions how to find us. Other things to note If you’re lucky enough to be here at certain times of the year we will have conservation grazing animals in very low stocking densities and a couple of very cute piggies who would love it if you wanted to say hello, give them a tickle or some food. These guys add a lovely dynamic to the land and do a great job for biodiversity. If you want to know if they’ll be here at the time of booking please just ask . If you are interested we are always happy to talk about the re-wilding project we are undertaking here but equally if you want some quiet and privacy you are welcome to enjoy the peace and privacy that this place offers. If you’re planning to bring your dog please let us know at the time of booking. This place is great for walking with dogs but it can be a little muddy so if your dog is very large and long haired this might not be suitable for them. We have our little dog, Isla, who is very well mannered and quiet but can be inquisitive.
