Other things to note We do cater for hosted retreats such as wellness or cooking retreats. Please get in touch for details. The local area is steeped in history... Corinium Dobunnorum (the Cirencester of old) was the comfortable capital of Roman Britain and fine Roman villas dot the hills nearby. Cirencester itself is pretty, historic and generally a great place to visit. It boasts the oldest famer's market in the country. Farmers still bring their produce to market every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month. Malmesbury to the south has a haunting Benedictine Abbey that towers over the town almost six centuries after dissolution. William Morris considered Bibury, a short drive north, the most beautiful village in England. We still think so, second to our village of course. If you're up for a sturdy walk (or short drive), Cotswold Water Park offers water-skiing, kayaking, rally driving, paint-balling and, in the summer, a beach. It's got some good places to eat too. On a good day walk to the local pubs - remember to wear wellies in winter. Head up the Thames path through fields to The Tavern next to the station (about a mile away), the Bakers' Arms in Somerford Keynes (about 2.5 miles away down the Thames Path, though in winter it can be a few inches under water), or the Potting Shed in Crudwell (about 4 miles via Oaksey mostly away along country tracks and backroads). For local footpaths, check out footpathmap .co. uk and search under My location. Our favourite trail is the long way round to Cirencester www .alltrails .com/en-gb/trail/england/gloucestershire/ewen-and-cirencester. Another is the source of the Thames - about 45 minutes away. To get back either retrace your steps back, or consider the longer circular walk here eatsleepwild .com /thames-source-circular-walk/. (Sadly the Wild Duck is under renovation.) Another good resource for walks is explore.osmaps. com. Search for Ewen and click on Go to Find Routes. There are dedicated workspaces, desks and cubbyholes, as well as high-speed internet, throughout the barn for remote working.
